He didn't say he was going to kick anyone off the team. He simply implied that that was an option or a possibility. He also said nobody was going to suit up again unless they understood that it was a privelege to play for Cincinnati. To me, that implied some interaction with the players in determining their attitude and mindset in light of what happened as part of the process of determining the punishments. I don't know what the discussions were like between Cronin and his players.

 

I believe Doug Gottlieb, in his infinite wisdom, created some of this when he immediately said Gates would be suspended a minimum of 10 games. So, from the word go, everyone was using that as the minimum suspension because Gottlieb said it. Where did he come up with that number? What was the basis for it?

 

Six games is over a quarter of the remaining schedule for Cincy and roughly 20% of the entire season. I don't see that as being unreasonable. I don't have a problem with it, nor do I have a problem with anything Cronin has said or done during this fiasco. I feel like he's handled it well.

 

I don't have any problems with the suspensions. However, he said it as if he may be kicking someone off the team. Ending one's season and 6 games is a large disparity. Quite frankly, I would've been fine with the league suspension and some behind the scenes discipline but that's not what he said.

Gametime, Can or will the NCAA step in and give more severe suspensions to the players from each team? Or will they accecpt the punishment dished out by each school and be happy with that. I just saw bits and pieces of what happened, and can't say a lot about it. Just wondering if this is the last of this situation or will the NCAA step in.

Suspensions are handled by the school and conference. Not a matter the NCAA will get involved with...

I didn't know if how much the situation has blown up if the NCAA might wanna show their muscle. I don't think they should but you know how they are and like to stick their noses in places it doesn't belong.

Happy and surprised to hear that Frease reached out to Yancy to let him know the family wasn't interested in any legal action and that he got that it was a "heat of the moment" thing.

Pretty cool on Frease' part and glad to hear Gates apologized. I think it would be huge if eventually Frease and Gates could appear together at some type of charity event. Would do wonders to finally put this entire affair to bed.

Considering the NCAA Suspension for fighting is only 1 game, I would assume they are ok with the suspensions.

Not sure I'd care to do that if I was Frease. Sure it would put it to bed for the community maybe, but if I was Frease, I'd just move on and let it be. I'm sure Gates would love to do that to help clean his name off a little more.
