Michigan Virginia Tech BCS Game?

Featured Replies

Nation wide a lot of the college experts are upset with the pick by the BCS on Michigan/Va. Tech playing the Orange Bowl. Tech has lost to Clemson ranked 20th two times. Michigan has two losses but didn't even play in their conference game.

But the sad part is Boise State who played and beat the Sooners in a bowl game a few years ago and Kansas State who in in the BCS top 10 as is Boise State. A lot of these guys ESPNU "Experts' and others all agree its the Name" of the schools and one being the draw of Michigan. Michigan how many BCS games have they played, a bunch and look at how many National Championships they have been in.

Whats their record against Ohio State in the past 10 years? This is about money and I have already said on other sites I will not watch this game. Clemson 2 times??

Boise State plays Arizona State on December 22nd in the MAACO Bowl.

Kansas State plays Arkansas In the Cotton which isn't bad, but man I feel for these guys BSU. Money rules and its sad.

The BCS's job is to pick the championship game. After that, everyone knows it's a money grab. The bowls would be stupid to even consider small programs like KState or Boise over Michigan or VaTech. These two teams travel very well, have large national fanbases, and are great draws.

What does Michigan's record against Ohio State in the past 10 years have to do with anything?

Just kinda weird when I saw how many times they have lost to the Bucks and the respect they get after losing all those times, and coaching issues they have, but they get into the Orange like they carry a lot of weight in the past 10 years. And you response was a fair one. Boise State coming intro the Big East is huge.

Fact is no mid major is getting a BCS at large bid with a loss. The money these BCS bowls pay out I don't blame them for going with who they think will generate the most money. What BSU did to OU a few years ago and what Michigan has done against Ohio St has zero to do with anything.

This is exactly why the bowl system stinks to high heaven.

Very little chance I watch this game. Nothing about these two interest me.

Great points, but say Boise was selected for the game. I think it would have still had a huge number there because it would have been a game people would want to see, to see how they would do. Not to mention probably would have good ratings on tv, because they have a lot of fans who have grown to like them, plus they would have had a lot of people watching because a lot of people would also like to see them lose to say see we told you they don't belong with the big boys. So if Boise got in I think the Bowl would have done pretty well still, however if Kansas State got in I don't think it would have been a game people would be to interested in.

^I think most of the country as a whole are sick of the Boise talk. Now that they're in the Big East they'll have every opportunity to prove they belong.

Slightly

^They go undefeated in the Big East, even if it is more mediocre than the other BCS conferences, they'll play for the title, except for the rare instances when there's two other undefeated teams. That was pretty much proven a couple years ago with UC.

Which is why I think if Boise did make a BCS bowl say instead of Virginia Tech that it would have drew a pretty good crowd, and maybe even have had higher ratings. A lot of people have grown to like them and enjoy watching them, while others feel like they don't belong. So a lot of people would have watched for that exact reason. That is why I the Sugar Bowl messed up by not inviting Boise instead, I think it would have made the game more attractive. I know I really don't care for the Sugar or Orange Bowl matchups this year.

^I can tell you with 100% confidence that those that feel they don't belong would not watch. I know I most certainly wouldn't. I can't argue that the Orange Bowl isn't a giant bowl of cow dung this year, because it's just flat out awful. I just don't think Boise is a big $ draw. All the at-large teams are picked based off who is going to bring in the most $. The people who make these picks aren't just basing them off their opinions. They have data and/or stats that say these were the right picks.

Boise State would be a TV draw, to a certain extent, if they were paired with a high-ranked team from a BCS league ... say, Arkansas for example. But the bowl games don't seem to inclined to put Boise against a big boy.

I wonder why ...

You mean your a 100% confident like you said there is none, zero chance the Bengals even come close to 8 wins this year? Your 100% confidence seems to be a little off this year. :D So I think you would be 95% wrong in thinking people wouldn' watch it. Most of the people who don't feel like they belong would watch it because they would want to see Boise lose, so they could say see told you they don't belong. Come on man you know people would be eating it up and loving it if they see Boise losing and probably would watch to see it. Plus I think you underesitmate the amount of people who follow Boise lately. That is why if they put them in for Virginia Tech, that the Sugar Bowl wouldn't have lost much at all, and probably got a better tv rating. I don't see many people around looking forward to the Virginia Tech/Michigan game, now that is a game I have no interest in seeing at all.

This is exactly why the bowl system stinks to high heaven.

That is about to change...
