I think the ONLY way to properly open up The Thompson House is with the V-Roys

Will be interesting to see if the Thompson House and new Southgate House go after the same artists, or if the Thompson House will try to find it's own niche.

That's definitely one of my curiosities.

With the Mad Hatter in Covington closing at New Years as well, I believe there are a couple of folks floating around NKY with some experience booking shows. They tended towards more metal, hardcore, grindcore, and some prog metal - along with a bit of DJ scratching here and there. I don't know if that's anything the new management would want to attract, but it's an option all the same.

Well apparently a classmate of mine from Cov Cath just accepted the job today as booking agent for the Parlour and Lounge at "The Thompson House". He's got a definite passion for the local music scene. I tend to think he is a little too big a fan of everybody just because they perform live original music. There's got to be somebody out there that's making bad music, haha.

 

But anyway...it's an interesting development. He darn-near lived at the Southgate House for the last 5 or 6 years, so I'm fascinated to see how his relationship with the old SGH crew goes as they open their new venue, and I'm interesting to see what he can do with The Thompson House as a newcomer to the whole booking agent gig.

This makes the third booking agent that I've known. All three most definitely run the lines of "unhealthy obsession with music" more than anything.

I think first and foremost is was about them making themselves familiar to the owners. They all picked their venue of choice and were all just as regular as could be - like went to the place 4 and 5 nights a week kind of regular. That usually led to some kind of job and/or capacity to say, "Oh, that band cancelled their show tonight and you don't have anybody to fill in? Well let me call one of the local bands that I'm acquainted with after having seen them play four dozen times." Then somewhere along the lines, personnel change, and bazinga! ...you're a booking agent at your favorite local venue.

Formerly Junie's Lounge at the SGH, here is the new paint job for the "Roc Star Lounge" at the irreverent Thompson House. Makes me want to kill somebody...

I've heard through the grapevine that Ross has recently purchased a new building and plans to begin rehab work very soon on a "revisted" version of the Southgate House.

Ran into a guy I know who plays in a couple bands that have played Southgate House. He said that it will re-open at the old church at 6th and Monmouth. Target opening is March.

 

Well they've missed their target. ...at the moment, the rehab of the former church is taking much longer than expected. On the up-side, however, they WILL be re-locating the "Southgate House" to this location. Another thing worth noting, the former booking agent from the SGH has taken a job booking shows at the Cincinnati Taft Theatre.

...and for what it's worth...he's doing an awfully good job of getting a new variety of shows booked at The Taft. When he hired on, it was with the requirement that the venue cleaned up the downstairs ballroom for use for smaller size shows - the kind the ballroom at the SGH used to host, with smaller capacity and smaller ticket price for not-so-headline acts. Right now, the ballroom lineup looks like this:
