I would be happy if it's that close; even happier with Dayton winning, but don't see the Green doing that.

Well Dayton only has 18 available to play. Injuries and ineleigible for grades. Seven kids are not academically eligible. Coach Montogmery even does a study hall too. Obviously those kids gave up. He can't hold their hand. He has kept them eligible all year and they finally decide to do this in the playoffs. That's incredible. Slap in the face to the program and especially to the players(seniors) and coaching staff.

Unfortunately at Dayton, this has become common for the kids to do this at the end of the season in recent years. Its a shame because I remember some really good Dayton teams. If Bellevue, Dayton, and Newport came together as one school, they would dominate imo. Since it will never happen, Bellevue will have some really good teams every 5yrs or so. Newport will have one every 10yrs. Dayton may not have another good team for a long time......like they used to and its not Coach Montgomery's fault either

There is only so much a football coach can do and I believe that he will do all he can do to not only be a good football coach, but also be a valuable member to the school educationally. I believe that this is a very good example of the problems with the school and even more of an example of other changes strongly needed, which are likely coming in the near future.

Unfortunately, this is a problem that has a large impact on the teams of small schools. I know it happens everywhere, but when you only have 40 players to begin with, it takes a real toll.

I just think Dayton is going to struggle for quite some time in football and it has nothing to do with Montgomery. I know that their youth program is struggling to the point where I have heard it may not be in existence too much longer. Plus, having bad seasons over the last couple or three years, it's hard to recruit kids for the team. I just think, Montgomery needs to find some quality parents that would be willing to take over the youth program and he will literally have to start building from the ground up.

Not to get off the thread topic but I would like to see Dayton come up with a middle school program and let the peewee league have the younger guys since they cant field a senior team, if Dayton wants to keep kids they half to get this done. As for the game I see Frankfort winning some Dayton's players seem to have given up already. Some kids can ruin a team and several are on this team!

Small schools have to small steps. you have to know the program to know there situation, I've seen my far share of bad stadiums that's why I never said anything bad about the atmosphere, like coachbuckett said it shows character. Both field houses are historic property so it's not like Frankfort's staff could knock em down and rebuild even if they had to finances too. Frankfort is also having trouble with it's youth but as I stated early about Frankfort's future it is Bright.

I agree whole heartedly about the middle school program.

I agree with your points about smaller schools taking small steps and having an old stadium. There is no doubt that Davis Field (Dayton) needs some work done, but it has far too much history to destroy. If things are fixed at Davis Field that need to be, it could be really nice.
