Jim, I'm taught by the Bible, its not my "Narrow brand of Christianity" but if you read the article most people are upset that someone is protesting.

 

That area is off Highway 72. It a major road that connects I-65 to the west of Alabama. Its at the Athens/Huntsville exit. It has a lot of Baptist Churches/Church Of Christ thru the whole area. These folks like I stated earlier will not find this protest to their liking.

 

Nothing has changed for me in the earlier threads on this issue. If we protested everytime we disagreed with something we would be very busy. I have just responded as I felt the Holy Spirirt to guide me.

I don't understand how someone labels Christianity as narrow in a negative way.. If you are speaking of the morals it embraces (not stealing, treating others well, not abusing your body, basically making honest & healthy decisions) then of course it is narrow. You can't support right and wrong. Now if you are skipping the positive influences and focusing your attention on the interpretation of the creation of the earth, the creator, the messenger, etc. I would have to say you're missing the message that if, each individual would abide by on a daily basis would make society in general more happier and better, overall. Personally, I believe in God but dislike religion in general. I can't grasp the concept that one is right and the other is wrong considering the fact if you were raised in a completely different environment (i.e. Middle East) your beliefs are different. That being said, my parents (the people who love me and I can trust) encouraged Christianity in my life for my best interest. It does not mean I cannot question it but it gives me basic principles to be a better person to myself, and others. Would someone be kind enough to enlighten me as to why it is so significant to question Christianity? The answer I am looking for must include negative effects and drawbacks of Christianity. I.e. War would be an irrelevant response because the question is directed toward Christanity's values and war is a reaction of the disagreement between man-kind.

Know...its a persons free gift that they can choose on how they want to believe. There are believers on here who see this prayer thing different with each other, but we still believe in Jesus. Then there are some who can't stand anything about Jesus/prayer/ a persons beliefs who are different from theres, and they also have the free gift to choose and we have to accept that. I actually enjoy debating with all of them.

You missed my point. By my bolding the part of "I'm taught by the Bible," I'm drawing attention to the fact that you, and everybody else, were taught by the Bible. However, somewhere along the line, your interpretation of the Bible (as well as many others') may have taken a left turn somewhere, and perhaps that's why there are 15,679 different interpretations of the Bible out there spawning various sects of Christianity, and that's why it's hard to take any of them -- if you'll forgive the pun -- as gospel. Especially when those phrases are cherry-picked as ammo for an argument.

 

On top of that, you definitely miss the point that it's not right for the majority to force their brand of Christianity down everyone else's throat simply because of the fact that there's no one around in strong enough numbers to call them out on it. Tyranny of the majority. Kind of like what happens everywhere in Kentucky outside of Ohio River towns.

People who go to the ACLU usually have nowhere else to go. It's not like the ACLU makes its money by backing front-runners. You see no need for the ACLU now, but what happens if you find yourself squarely in the crosshairs of the majority? Who takes up for your rights then?
