Atheist group tries to stop prayer at HS FB games that include Jesus

Featured Replies

Once again nothing being done to hurt anyone, why now all of a sudden by ONE individual who has a problem with it.

The complaint was lodged by a single resident who objected to the student-led prayer before high school football games played on school property

If it is over the intercom, it is unconstitutional. It appears as an endorsement of a religion.

What I can't figure out is that no one is HURT, as you say, by not having the prayer over the intercom. Why do they need to do it?

I know I beat a dead horse on the topic, BUT it is student led as most on here said should happen. lets say I go to a game and an islamic prayer is said, I bow my head and pray to my God and show respect for the others who believe in Islam. if I dont believe what others do I have enough respect to mind my own business because what does it really hurt me anyway. It isnt like they are asking for a show of hands on who is saved or who is a non-believer and harrassing you over your beliefs and condeming you right there on the spot. It is a simple prayer that the majority want and like. It is time to stop being so poitcally correct and say get over it.

Someone on here clearly has a problem with atheists.

Why do we need threads on every single incident of this happening? It's not like any of us are all of a sudden change our minds. :ohbrother:

I have no problem with atheist, seems they have a problem, they are the ones always in the news trying to have religion taken out of everyplace under the sun.

It is pretty simple, when you see the topic, DONT READ IT, no one is forcing it upon you. Kind of like a pregame prayer, no one is forcing it on you, you have a choice.

It does seem like this ground has been plowed before.

Kind of like a car wreck. You know you shouldn't look, you know it will probably be horrible, but sometimes you just can't help yourself.biggrin.gif

I agree 100%

But it is student led, isnt that what all the anit-prayer posters said should happen in teh first place,so where is the support now since it is student led.

If you believe in Jesus you have to believe in Satan. Satan isn't going anywhere soon.

No that's not at all what was said. If people on their own want to stand their and pray, no one has an issue with it.

It doesn't matter if it's student led, if it's part fo the sanctioned events of the football game, as it appears it is, then it has no place in a public school.

Mtn Ref: Question to you sir! I understand why you want prayer in your school but it is indeed against the law and that is why many, many of us have sent or are sending our Children to Christan/Catholic Schools where pray is indeed allowed.

Now my question to you, sir? Why don't you and those in your community do what a lot of our parents/grand parent and dare say our great grand parents did years and years ago, that is start your own Christian based school in your community!

Give me the money and I will. But I shouldnt have to. Why dont we build atheist schools for kids to go to.

We already have schools that prohibit the practice of religious beliefs. They're called public schools, just like this one.

That's the whole purpose of private schools. So those that want to raise their children and have them educated in an environment that incorporates religion into the process can do so. It's pretty funny that you constantly complain about people trying to enforce the principles of the Constitution.

It is pretty funny that constantly complain about people wanting religion in their lives. Enforce the constitution, how about enforcing it for the prayer at inaguration then. why dont you be the big bad wolf and go get the ACLU to do your dirty work and end it too.

You either don't read posts or just don't care, because I've stated on here I don't agree with that either.

As far as me "ending it", I have no reason to, I could care less if they pray at high school football games (which are incredibly boring), the innaguration, or anywhere else. It doesn't bother me one bit. That however, doesn't change the fact that having prayer be a part of a public school or government sanctioned event is unconstitutional and those who wish to oppose it are well within their right and have much more ground to stand on than the bigots who cry about them "changing tradition".
