Henry County is not an "All A" school.

Why the personal attack and sarcastic remark? Since you didn't like my response to CSF's post, why do you think Grant County is playing at least 19 games (could be more depending on who they play in the holiday tournaments) against "All A" schools?

19 is a bit much especially for a school with 1,100 kids. Confidence takes you so far. At some point you have to improve by competing against fair competition. Record means nothing during the tournament. If you have to take some beatings to make your team better than so be it.

I see your point, but to think that a school with a thousand boys to pull from doesn't have an advantage over a school with 125 boys isn't very solid logic.

I see your point,but I don't think Grant has a thousand boys or numbers doesn't mean talent. It does increase the chances but is not always the case.

Grant will be an underdog to many of these A schools. Gallatin, Owen, WV will all be favored to beat the braves. They will have their hands full with Carroll and Eminence as well, as both of these teams will have quality big men and Grant has none. It could be a long year on the ridge.

Does Carroll and Eminence have the guards to handle Grants guards?

I didn't know that Grant's guards were so unstoppable? I don't recall any studs returning to their roster this year. Hunt is a nice player, but didn't Grant lose alot of their scoring with the absence of Hunt and Kinmon?

Just didn't recall Eminence or Carroll having any unstoppable players either. I think Hunt returns and Kinmon is gone. Saw them over the summer their guards looked pretty good without Kinmon.

If Grant Co. is a Class A school, then seems they would be ranked fifth or so after Owen, Walton Verona, Gallatin and possibly Carroll Co. Probably would be ranked higher than Williamstown and Trimble. Looks like they have an appropriate schedule; they are playing teams that will make them better.

The Foree kid from Eminence is a nice talent. 6'2 and a heck of an athlete. Dixie was a developing guard last year. I don't know much about them, but they beat Trimble and Carroll last year and basically have everyone back. Grant should beat them but it will not be an easy win. I love the Gibson kid from Carroll. 6'3 has some range, leaps well. They have pieces to the puzzle, but the earlier poster is correct, guard play is a weakness. I think Grant will win some games. There schedule is not aimed at making them ready to win the region, it is aimed at gaining confidence by winning some games against smaller schools. The only danger in that strategy is if you schedule soft and still don't win it really hurts your program. The A schools are all very competitive. There is not a huge gap like there was 20 years ago.

I seem to remember Mason County being taken to task last year for scheduling Grant County. Even though the Royals had a very competitive schedule, it wasn't quite as strong as it had been the previous three years; and some folks seemed to wonder why.

 

It has always been my contention that you should schedule some teams that you expect to beat, some where you are the decided underdog, and a bunch that could go either way. Now, if you have an extraordinarily talented team, maybe you don't have the luxury of the bolded. The vast majority of teams aren't going to be world beaters each and every season.

 

Schedule some against run-and-gun teams; some against slow-down teams. Some against teams with a strong post presence, some against guard-dominated squads. Schedule a couple that have the potential to become great ongoing rivalries if they're not already.

 

Now, Grant County is being called on the carpet for scheduling a bunch of smaller schools. My guess is that their coach and athletic department has taken stock of where their program is and scheduled accordingly. No doubt geography plays a factor as well.

 

All that being said, there are indeed a whole bunch of small schools on the GC schedule. I would be interested to see if this is more than just a one-year phenomenon.

You have something against him? Or maybe against a member of his family? You stick a jab at him whenever you can. I find it comical, you're probably an older man always insulting a 17 year old. You must feel proud.

 

I wish the Braves luck. I played with those guys and you probably know who I am. He was the best player when I was a senior and he was just a sophomore. He makes everyone around him better. They will miss him. I encourage you to keep bashing him. He is the type of player that gains from it.
