Newport lost four of their 5 starting offensive lineman from last year, lost their starting QB, their starting running back, and only returned one starting receiver and he was a receiver that only played two games last year before injury. On defense they only returned their starting corner, and one defensive lineman.

They have played with a very inexperienced team this year, with not much experience playing at the Varsity level. A lot of guys who are young and don't know yet how to play through tough situations including knowing how to handle dealing with things when they get cheapshotted and knowing better not to do something back. It is interesting to see bigback say something about this, when he supports a team that has to deal with some of the samethings. Things where you can coach and try to teach a kid to keep their cool, but it happens anyways. So with all that what were the expectations suppose to be this year to put Coach Rice on the hot seat like some of you mentioned? Were they suppose to be a top ten team in the region with two returning starters? That is a lot to lose and have to deal with this year and they still ended up having the same record as last year at this point. Doesn't sound like to bad of a job when you only returned 2 starters on both sides of the ball.

 

Well, 2 huge transfers from Princeton. They do have 3 returning starters on O-Line. All receivers are back, with two RB's back as well. Nick works very hard. However, at some of the games I have seen he has trouble keeping his emotions in check and his players feed off this. That can be positive or negative. He is by far the loudest head coach in Pre game. If you look at the better coaches in NKY, they have a mild temperament. The head coach should be even kiel and keep emotions in check. He is young and has the potential to be a good coach in the future. He is dealt with some depth issues and other issues (grades/transfers/home lives of players) that schools like Bellevue, Dayton, Ludlow, etc have to be concerned with. Good luck to Coach Rice and the Wildcats in the Playoffs.

So once again you have no stats on other teams correct? I didn't realize you also seen every other team in the state play? You get around pretty good then since you seen every other team in the state play, to know that for sure Newport leads the state? What kind of car you got, you must have a fast car with good gas mileage to be able to get around to see all the teams in the state. That is very impressive. So you also would know that sometimes coaching has nothing to do with it, could be the best coach in America and do everything right to try to prevent your kids from doing those things and it still happens.

So you expected them to be great as soon as he took over. He made an inprovement with the program from the first year he took over to the second year. Was that second year suppose to be all of a sudden competiting with NCC for the district championship? The second year is the year programs start to get better under a coach and it did. However after that second year, they lost basically all their starters so it was back to rebuilding which is the life of a small school. It really is not that hard to understand at all. After last year ended and losing all their starters like that, most people would have said this year would have been a really bad year. Which even though they lost everyone they still basically were able to do the same as last year. Not to mention one of those starters that came back this year missed three games during the year including this game and will miss the rest of the year. So once again please tell me what you expected to be done this year? Nice personal attack at the end with your last sentence on the coaching thing. You might need to watch out for that because that is not exactly aloud on here. Which by the way I know you have an opinion just like I do, and your opinion is no more right than mine is yours. However if you want to throw out things like they are fact by saying they have led the state two years in a row, when you really don't know that is wrong. You didn't say it in a way where you were acting like you were being sarcastic. That is not right to be saying anything like that about a program, a program full of high school kids. Now your backtracking and saying you were being sarcastic because people are calling you out on that besides just me. That is fine to have an opinion, what is not fine is bashing a program or a coach like you have a few times this year. Trust me I know that it is not good to bash things, when you truly are not there to completely understand things and what is going on. Maybe one day you will learn that lesson like I have. After the 2 weeks that Newport beat up on 2 Class A schools you were ready to crown Coach Rice the king of NKY. I figured that since you were upset by a far less talented team I would mention it. Newport by far has more talent. It looks like he got out coached and the Juggs wanted it more. IMO, a sign of a good coach and coaching staff is having the ability to take an inexperienced young team and making them better by the end of the season. This has not happened at Newport. The way this team conducts themselves on the field at times is embarrassing and I'm saying that as a Newport grad myself. The Newport coaching job is a very very difficult job but I bet the "leading the state in personal foul penalties" isn't really that far off base and that is something the HC can do and should do something about.

Please don't be saying Lloyd was throwing cheap shots! Because if you where at that game Newport deserved every call they got and got away with several due to an old Newport alumni officiating on their sidelines...So please do not throw rocks at a glass house.

Sounds like Nick Rice may need to leave Newport and go back to Dayton to rescuing the sinking ship otherwise known as their football program.

The kids in the program just dont get it. Its an awful situation for the coaching staff, and its not any brighter in the upcoming classes either. No discipline what so ever for a lot them, not going to say all of them because that just wouldnt be fair to some of the kids down there. Its not on the coaching staff either, it starts well before these guys ever get to them. They are trying to make these kids better men not just on but off the field as well and its just not getting through to a lot of them.

 

Is there a ton of talent in the program right now? No, but its not as bad as they have been either. I feel bad for the kids that are committed to getting better and showing up everyday busting there butts to get better, quite a few of there teammates aren't giving them that. As an Alumni and former player I couldnt ever imagine missing practice for any reason and it seems to be common now days with some of those guys. It's embarrasing that some of those kids call themselves Newport Wildcats and it has nothing to do with wins and losses. Sad to hear that some of them played like punks on friday night.
