This situation is disgusting. No way you give a child "hormone blockers".

Real life decisions being considered because of childhood fantasy. I'm on the side of those who say the hormone blocker idea is ridiculous.

With all due respect the "parents" are nuts and the child should be removed from their custody (and yes I would feel the same way if it was a traditional family). They say that the child started saying he was a girl at age 3 and give that as reason for doing this. Raise the child as a boy which is it's biological sex and then when he's and adult if he wants to self mutilate and have the surgery go for it.

And if he goes through with it? If your child kept constantly threatening to inflict pain to themselves, you wouldn't be concerned? You would just dismiss it?

No. It sounds like the kid needs psychiatric help. Hormone blockers aren't the answer though.

And I agree with that. It sounds from the article that the parents have taken the kid to therapy for quite a while, which makes me think this was the recommendation of a therapist. If that's the case, shouldn't the brunt of this fall on the therapist?

It's hard to tell exactly how the parents came to this decision. But yes, I guess you could assume that the therapist recommended this. If that's the case then the therapist should be taken to task for this as well as the parents.

I could see where the boy might be confused about, well, being a boy since he has 2 parents that are girls. I wonder if he has any male role models in his life to associate with?
