i am tolerant, and dotn have a problem with atheist, it is when they try to take traditons like this is when I get upset.

I'm in the camp that a child can know what their religious bent is when they're young. Shoot, I've known I was Catholic from as early as I can remember. The thing is that religion shouldn't be an auxillary part of us...it should be intrinsic. Being a Christian isn't a label, it's a b[/] part of who you are. A lot of that is how you're taught and raised. But people do grow in their beliefs...people question them all the time...it's part of the growth. I admit, it's difficult for me to fathom that one could believe not to believe. But it's also difficult for me to fathom people who have left the Catholic Church, even if they still worship the same God as a part of another denomination. I put it down to the "human factor", which sometimes results in things others don't understand.

That is very true, and the reason for countless improvments in life.

You keep playing the traditions card but fail to address the tradition of slavery? Or segregation. Or the other countless traditions this country had at one time.

Bottom line... I probably need to look into private school for my kids.

There's the answer. If you don't like the public school system and the rules it has/needs to follow then there are other options out there. Hell, my co-worker and his wife saw a void for an Islamic school here in Louisville and started there own.

My gut says that it's a futile attempt to get into the mind of a 16 year old girl. But I'm willing to give her the benefit of the doubt. The mural is what's on trial here...not the girl's character.

 

But her reasons are certainly open to debate, which is what we're doing. She put herself out there so we have every right to question why she's doing it. I don't believe she's offended at all, just doing it for the attention. As someone posted, many things are challenged for the same reasons, it's nothing new.

I said that the uproar over something that is debatable as to it's place in a public school is a distraction.

 

Any form of distraction from the primary goal of educating , especially if there is a question of its legality, should be removed.
