We have missed practices in the past for a wednesday service, but yet to miss a game. The game is important thats why we signed up, we made up the practice the next day, once you miss the game, its gone. We have traveled out of town for soccer tourneys where we missed the Sunday worship, we had service as a family.

 

Once we asked the director of the Soccer club to switch my son because we asked for a tuesday practice day and we got the wednesday, the coach said "you can miss any wednesday you want, let your kid stay with me". That was a very nice gesture.

 

That year he missed just a few wednesdays, but went late. He wore his soccer clothes to church. Another thread maybe?

This is not a Wednesday night story but a good one anyways.

 

It was the 1996 Final Four when UK beat UMass on a Saturday night. On Sundays the priest would normally close Mass with "The Mass has ended. Go in Peace to love and serve the Lord". On this Sunday, after the KY win over UMass on Saturday, the close was "The Mass has ended.......Go UK" while displaying the UK button he had hid under his vestments. The cheers went up!! I guess the moral of the story is we all have to find our balance between the many activities in our lives.

Blue, in our past services many times Blue/Red preachers made comments on the saturdays games. But when they made comments about my team it was hard because everyone knew who was getting talked about.

Special guests such a singings/groups speaking creation (example)/Revivals can bring it a lot more people. My former Church had 268 on Sunday, Sunday nite 110 and 77 on Wednesday nite. You see the same families on Wednesdays/Sunday Nites. Plus of course on Sunday mornings.

 

5Wide the ratio is just what I've seen over my years of seeing the records, and as we search we can see what they post in their bullentins on Sunday morning.

 

From the Bullentin this past Sunday at the forth largest Baptist Church in Jefferson County. Sunday School had 594, in Worship 691, Sunday nite 368..no record was givien for Wedensday nite.

 

I agree that the special services will bring in more people, but it typically consists of our core group, other local church members (often from those church's core groups as well), and then a few random people that just enjoy coming to singings or whatever it may be. That's the way it is where I live.

Yep, you are correct. I see people who only choose to attend just the one sunday worship, and I'm not saying anything against them at all, but it is what it is. At least they are going and are faithful in that reguard. Our last practice this season is next monday so we will be free to start to visit churches on wednesday nite. Our son has had practice since June.

I think leaving Wed open for church activity is a great idea. In peewee football during the fall, Wed night was the non practice night. All the catholic churches also had CCD scheduled that night. It was nice that everyone just knew Wed was for church activity.

Wednesday night is generally not a "worship service" like that which is commanded for us to observe on the first day of the week.

 

I cannot speak for everyone, but in my experience, mid-week assembly is more of a less formal bible study, where the congregation can come together and study and fellowhip with one another. You won't likely see a contribution collected, communion observed or a typical sermon preached. You will generally study a bible lesson, sing, pray, give testimony, support one another, etc.

When I was a kid, I went to Wednesday prayer meetings with my Grandfather, a Baptist minister, every week. On every other day, I was a Catholic.

Seems like all sports related activity stops here in CKY for Wednesday night church. Can't even use a Wednesday to schedule a booster meeting which really messes stuff up since everything else is crammed into the other 5 days. I never saw Wednesday night service taken so seriously unil I moved to the greater Mercer/Boyle metropolitan area. I am used to it now but for the record.....I'd love to be able to have Wednesday nights back to have 6 days available for activities instead of 5. It's just how I feel.

 

 

FKW-no teammates of mine in any sport would be happy with the teammate(s) who misses games/practices for Wednesday night church. Our reaction would have been for them to simply not play if you have other priorities other than your team on Wednesday night.

I know the school I attended didn't have that much "gym time" available so Wednesday's were really the only day during the week the wrestling team could count on having the gym to host meets. You take that away and we would have been relegated to the tiny elementary school gym.

I was in charge of scheduling basketball practices for the youth league one year and was told no Wednesday night practices that we only have the four weekdays. Everyone got an hour of gym time/practice...2 hours a week. Kindergarten-2 grade got the first 6 and 7pm practices while 3-6 grade have to fill in the remaining 7 and 8 pm practices. It was a logistical nightmare and I still had K-2 parents telling me it was too late for their kids to be out practicing. Give me the Wednesdays back and everyone would have been happy.

 

If folks want to worship on Wednesdays that's cool. Do your thing. I don't like how an entire community can be impacted by Wednesday night worship though. Especially if we're talking one hour of service.
