Second Louisville father to be charged with faking address to get son into Oldham...

Featured Replies

I know in our district, we had 5 at one grade school last year were asked to leave for the same thing. They were not charged with any crime but were removed from the school right away.

I know that Oldham Co's high schools are very high performing academically. They are at the top of our region in ACT scores and career/college readiness standards.

I gotta tell ya, I can't see pressing felony charges against the guy. Pull his kid from the school, fine him and that's that.

Jail time is ridiculous. A fine is appropriate. But comparing Jefferson Co to Oldham you can't really blame any parent for trying. Oldham Co has some high performing schools academically speaking.

I find it amusing that a screwl district wants to keep out students/families that WANT to be there. Don't know the specifics of the situation, don't really care. Wouldn't it make more sense to charge a tuition as an out of district student? I know other public schools that do this.

Oldham Co. schools are bursting at the seams. They don't have room for extra people. That's why they are doing this. They were talking about building a fourth HS even when I was working there 10 years ago, and that hasn't materialized because of economic constraints. They don't have room for people who don't belong there.

All he wants is a better education for his son. Borders shouldn't matter when he is trying to do what's best for his family.

We can start calling him an undocumented student. I'm sure that all those who want to throw the book at this guy are also perfectly fine with rounding up every illegal immigrant in the country and jailing them correct?

Since you're playing that game, let's look at it another way: If you paid property taxes and school taxes in Oldham County, wouldn't you be kind of upset that your money was paying for the education of someone who's not supposed to be there?

My money pays for the education of lots of people since I don't have any kids and even if I did they wouldn't be part of the cesspool that is JCPS but that's another story.

I just find it inconsistent at best and hypocritical at worst that many of the same people who are calling for the heads of these fathers get irate when anyone says that illegal immigrants should be jailed or deported because all they are doing is trying to make a better life for themselves.

For the record, I don't care one way or another. I'm just saying that's the way OC Schools is looking at it, and I'm betting that given Oldham County's political makeup there are some Tea Party types who are complaining about their tax dollars being abused.

How does Oldham collect school taxes?
How does Oldham collect school taxes?

It's been a while since I worked there, but if I recall correctly, it's via property taxes and local payroll taxes. Somebody living there now could correct me if I'm wrong.

I don't get the residency thing. If you are willing to own property and pay city taxes for it, who cares where you watch your football on Sundays or sleep at night? You pay the taxes, you should get the benefit that other tax payers receive.
