What is going to be the best District battle?

With the new alignment, I'm having a hard time adjusting to the new districts a little bit. I know there are a bunch of new matchups for District Titles on the line and I'm wondering what some of them are and how they are shaping up.

 

We all know Highlands and Covington Catholic in the same district is going to be fun in 4A D7. Highlands got the best of CovCath last week in a closer game than most expected. A playoff rematch will be on everyone's minds.

 

And of course, 6A D4 with Trinity, St X, Male and Manual is going to be a monster district every year. Trinity looks to be the favorite, but the battle for 2-3-4 will be interesting.

 

Who else?

I'll start with 4A D6 with Rockcastle Co, Russell Co, Knox Central and Clay Co.

 

This district should be a war between Rockcastle, Knox and Russell Co. I don't know who is the favorite at this point, but I would mark these dates

 

Sep 30 Russell Co @ Rockcastle Co

Oct 14 Rockcastle Co @ Knox Co

Oct 21 Knox Co @ Russell Co

 

Any thoughts?

Couldn't agree more Watusi......let's hope the games are as good or better than the hype. If they fulfill the expectations then it will be an awesome battle!!!!

Class 2A D4 could be very interesting over the next few weeks. I would not be surprised to see Washington County, Bardstown, DeSales and CAL to finish in any number of combinations. It's not even out of the realm of possibility for Fort Knox to slip in there and knock one of those four out of the playoffs.

It would take a couple upsets by the Eagles, but they have a chance. Played DeSales to within a TD on Friday — and that was with one of their key guys returning after a two-game suspension. An extra couple weeks with him the fold could be a difference-maker for Ft. Knox.

 

But the top four are certainly the favorites.

Wow, really shocked that its just automatic that its going to be Highlands/CovCath for round 2. Based on this past weekends outcome of the game between these two I would have to agree but I hope CovCath isnt overlooking Holmes.

Geez, if that happened and Holmes wound up the second seed that would put CovCath back down in Johnson City trying to avenge last yrs lost.

Highlands would love it, because one of the two would eliminate one another and leave Highlands on a much easier path then if CovCath finishes 2nd and then yes Highlands would have to beat CovCath again (no pun intended) in 2nd round and then have JC come to Ft Thomas for another classic.

That certainly will be a good district to watch over the next month. Gotta love this time of year!!!

Who said it was automatic? I just said it would be on everyone's mind, which it will.

 

And if HHS and CCH finish 1-2, then the rematch would be in Round 3 if it happens. If CCH finishes 3rd, then the rematch with HHS would be in round 2.

Did they change something? Last yr Dixie finished second seed and it was Dixie at Highlands 2nd round. CovCath was third seed and went to JC for 2nd round and lost. Highlands then travled to JC for 3rd round. I am missing something here.................

I'm pretty certain that last year CovCath was 2nd and Dixie was 3rd.

 

They set the brackets up so that if everyone wins out as seeded, the 2nd round will feature the #1 team from each district facing the #2 team from the opposing district.
