If you use the coach's poll the coaches will somehow try to manipulate it. It's human nature.

There is no good way to seed. If you can't seed the only acceptable solution is the blind draw. Why does it matter who makes it to the finals to come in 2nd?

The only part of the draw that wasn't blind was the last two 12 and 9 the last ball drawn .

I believe the Region 8 winner (North Oldham, South Oldham or Oldham Co.) will be in the semi's against Greenwood (Region 4) To all the coaches of the regions in the upper bracket, Good Luck! I hope you make it to the finals. The draw "is what it is". In the future, all people will see is your high schools name with "State Runners-up" behind it. Not an * that says "They got a lucky draw".

Goals were set, hard work done, your dreams are within reach.....go make history!!!!

Its High School Volleyball, not club championships! This just happens to be one of the years when the stars are aligned and somebody other than the traditional powers will have a chance to get some exposure. Be careful not to be critical of kids, especially the ones from small, underfunded public schools, that have to use every child that has talent in every sport they offer. These types of draws are the things that keep people interested in KY high school sports.

I agree. Well said.

Conversely, let's not sell short a player just because she goes to a private school and plays club volleyball. That does not guarantee success. There are many levels of club volleyball - some of it is not any better than HS ball. You have to work your butt off to be a good player, in club, in private schools, and in public schools. As I've said before, there's nothing stopping anyone anywhere in the state from starting up a club team - it has nothing to do with schools or school funding.

I don't get the love affair we have with the underdog. When Assumption soundly defeats whoever comes out of the top bracket, I will be proud of their achievement. Around the state they will be perceived as the evil empire, beating up on the poor public schools. That's a bunch of crap. Want to get better in volleyball? Give up the statewide love affair with basketball and start playing volleyball year 'round and working your butts off like these girls do. They deserve everything they get, including another state championship.

Blind draw is all you can do in a state tourney........................BlueKrush while i agree with your points about getting better, etc........I am guessing you now have really convinced more people that Assumption volleyball is indeed the evil empire!!!!

Highlands and Trinity football = Assumption volleyball

Think of the movie "Hoosiers", "Bad News Bears", etc. Just seems like it is human nature to root for that Cinderella team that "was not supposed to get that far". Just making a comment. (Disclaimer---I don't have any volleyball players in my house, and I have nothing against Assumption or club volleyball organizations...)

This will be the first year a public school makes the finals, correct?

I respectfully disagree. We are talking State Championship, and no team should have to rely on the luck of the draw to determine their chances . Those girls are athletes who work hard to EARN the right to compete fairly.

That being said, I personally would like to see school volleyball classified like football, according to school size. That would give more schools, including public ones a chance to be state champions.

Thumbs down! Have to disagree. These types of draws make for some really bad blowout volleyball, which no one is interested in seeing, and actually hurts the sport in the long run. You need drama and exciting, competitive matches to draw in the casual fans and build the sport. Next weekend, everyone will remember when NDA plays NCC, and Assumption plays Mercy. But no one will remember NCC vs Caldwell County, or Assumption destroying whoever in the Championship as great matches.

And don't sing me the poor public school song. I pay my taxes. Compared to a private school who has to charge or fundraise for every single dollar, county and public schools have an excess of funding. I'll repeat my previous statements: Being good in volleyball has nothing to do with school funding. Get the girls to put down the basketball and pick up a volleyball for more than 3 months a year if you want to get better and really compete for a Championship.

Disagree, don't believe in telling kids to just play one sport.
