My wife and I booked a trip with my brother-in-law and his wife to the Grand Sunset Princess Resort in Cancun. It is in the Riviera Maya part of Cancun. Has anyone been there and have any advice or info that may be helpful? It is an all-inclusive.

 

Yes, you'll be an hour away from Cancun, however, if you can make it to Playa del Carmen get there. There are Mayan ruins not to terribly far from there. I lived about 3 hours NW of there. If you are going, soon you will run into the rainy season, which is actually not too bad. It'll rain for about 45 minutes every afternoon. Are you renting a car?

I know it's common knowledge but don't touch the water and even ice cubes. I found out the hard way and it lasted for 2-3 days. Make sure you know your conversion rate, the cab drivers like to take advantage of you and when your drinking it makes you an easy target. Watch for little kids approaching you outside the clubs, they try to put handmade bracelets on your wrist hoping for $$$. You should have a good time, all you need should be provided by the hotel.

 

Ice cubes are fine, but make sure that they look like donuts (i.e. are in the shape of a donut w/ a hole in teh middle of the cube) those are from purified water. Also, the Riviera is more of a resort type place. Cancun has more of "strip" w/ more to do outside of the hotel than the Riviera.

Make sure that your resort sells Dos Equis. A lot of the resorts sell one or the other. It is either Modelo (Modelo and Corona) or Superior (Dos Equis, Sol) If they don't sell Superior products, Modelo negro is pretty good. Modelo itself is really good, and I hate Corona.

I was down there the exact time you are going down except it was last year. Dont wanna put a spoiler but there was a hurricane :lol:. The airport got closed down for 2 days.

Topless sunbathing is actually illegal. However, Cancun is a big vacation spot for European travelers, so it is usually overlooked.

I know when I went they called Jack n Coke "American Lunch". I had many lunches every day.

If your wife embibes, order her a Miami Vice. My wife loves them. Also, it is the rainy season, but it hits about the same time everyday, they are perfect to nap to.
