From comparing scores is Ashland a favorite over Ironton next week?

Featured Replies

Did anyone see both games? If so, what do you think?

I talked to my Ironton contact tonight and asked him about the Russell game and he said that the Tigers were up 20 and had dominated the game. He said the heat killed his team along with the QB from Russell, with his running.

He also said he thought if they would have played the game this week with the cooler night the score would have been bad.

In all of the years I have known him he has never been biased when it comes to his school.

Now for the Ashland game. He said that Ashland will be tested and that he thought they were better than Russell.

Ironto won,42-0 over Chillicothe tonight. They were up by that same score at the half and called the DOGS off.

Sure looks like Ironton sucks. And if they think Russell's QB is good, they've not seen Hunter. I take Ashland in this one. Ashland is district favorite, big.

What my friend said was he, the QB was a good runner.Never said anything about being a "good qb"

I will take the Tigers by 13.

LOL...don't know how you can think or say that...they're 3-0. And if you remember last year they came in after impressive early showings and Ironton dismantled them 43-6.

I've personally seen the Tomcats up close and they are good, but Ironton is as good or better than they were last year. Again, I think the Tomcats keep it close, but i have to agree with newarkcatholicfan...Ironton wins this one. It's a different breed of football across the river.

Tell your friend that unless Russell has invested in some new technology for it's uniforms, it was the same heat factor on them. So I call poppycock on that notion. Russell and Ironton are both ball control offenses that matchup well. That's why the last 2 years the score has been respectable. Ashland, not so much. They are very diverse and it will be tough on Ironton to contain all their weapons. The question for Ashland is can they stop the run? I say it will be a very even game unless Ashland lays the ball on the turf as much as they did last night against Russell.

Nice try, placing the bullseye on Ashland. But Ironton isn't in their district so your ploy is weak.

Looks like it might be a good time to visit Putnam Stadium again, guru....come and see for yourself.

Isn't there another big game late in the year?

I say Ashland beats Ironton this year. Comparing the scores? Well Russell normally plays Ironton closer then Ashland. Look at the years past. Ironton and Russell both run a ball control offense, so the score is normally not that high. Not many possessions due to the two offenses. Ashland is normally a larger margin because Ashland plays catch up and passes to score and gives Ironton more opportunities to score.

Any whoo, Ashland wins this year.

I hope there's more than one or two more...:thumb:

In 2009 Blazer broke the long losing streak to the Fighting Tigers. In my opinion, they made a mistake by not waiting until Ironton's bus rolled out of Putnam before taking a team picture in front of the scoreboard. Last year was an emotional revenge game for Ironton. The snowball got rolling down hill fast and Blazer couldnt stop it. they also couldnt get out and block ironton's end and had numerous sacks. In my opinion if Hunter stays in the pocket and flings it all over the field, this game could be a down to the wire contest that would depend on who gets the ball last. If Ashland gets in a slugfest running match and allows Ironton to chew the clock, Ironton will win by two scores. Ashland has the emotion and revenge factor this week. They will also have a home field advantage. This will be an exciting game with a huge crowd. Many folks who are not tied to either school will sneak over to Putnam to watch this game. This is a great game for both schools and a whole lot more fun when both schools are good. This may very well come down to two point conversions.

Ill take Ironton 34 Ashland 32

If Hunter stays in the pocket he can't see over his linemen. It sure seems he's a better passer outside of the pocket.

I have to agree. I think Ashland is a much more affective passing team with Hunter moving out of the pocket. I personally think he throws better on the run, then standing tall.
