UK fball fan Posted September 5, 2011 Posted September 5, 2011 Maybe not in the history of the school, but, in the past few years.. They've been very good the last 3 years or so, but, have layed an egg in the playoffs. So, I'm just curious if this is a more talented team capable of actually winning state and beating the likes of NCC, OB Cath, Danville, Desales, etc or are they pretty similar to what they've been the past few years? And, if so, what's the difference in comparison to the past few teams?
AverageJoesGym Posted September 5, 2011 Posted September 5, 2011 We just want to win this week's game against Hazard. Then we can worry about next week. This team has too tough of a schedule to overlook anyone or start planning for the playoffs. I don't know if you can say that Somerset has laid an egg in the playoffs the last 2 seasons. They are 7-2 with a state final appearance and another semi-final apperance. A lot of teams would like to lay an egg like that.
Watusi Posted September 5, 2011 Posted September 5, 2011 No joke, they have been as successful as anyone not named Central in their class the last two seasons. They were very close to a 2nd finals appearance in a row last season too.
Jumper_Dad Posted September 5, 2011 Posted September 5, 2011 This team IMO is a little more athletic, but not as big or deep as the past two seasons. Seems to be a few more players playing both ways (esp key players), but I could be wrong, Joe would know those particulars better than I do. I think this team will do just fine this year, the schedule is a bear so if they do lose during the season it will do a lot more to get them ready come November than the weak schedule the previous coach had lined up the last two years. It is impossible the quantify a discussion between teams from different seasons, it might be fun to argue but it doesn't do justice to the kids that played or are still playing. Go Jumpers!!!
ATLCat Posted September 6, 2011 Posted September 6, 2011 I certainly wouldn't say Somerset has been laying eggs. Last season was the only time that their playoff run ended against a team they were heavily favored against, and many a favored team has seen their season end at the hands of Belfry at Pond Creek. This is the closest Somerset has came to a "complete" team during this run. They may not have an elite player like a John Cole, but they have several very good pieces along with a solid defensive unit. Danville, Ocath, and Desales could all be defeated by Somerset...New Cath is a different animal though. I also still would be very leery of a Pburg team who has enough offensive weapons to match Somerset.
TRENCHMASTER Posted September 6, 2011 Posted September 6, 2011 The BJ's have not laid an egg in the playoffs. Dont know the program well enough to know if this is their best team but over the last three years it is clear each team has given their best effort each game. That is what counts. Would love to mee the BJ BGpers when they play Whitley. I am not looking forward to the game.
UK fball fan Posted September 7, 2011 Author Posted September 7, 2011 Maybe not lay an egg, but, they were undefeated, ranked #1 and playing a Tilghman team that was like 8-6 or 7-7 coming into the title game, so, yes, they were a heavy favorite in 2009 and never really even threatened to beat PT.. Then, last year, undefeated again, highly ranked and a heavy favorite vs Belfry and got hammered. It's not so bad to get upset, but, when it happens two years in a row, it's underachieving, to say the least.
Clyde Posted September 7, 2011 Posted September 7, 2011 When is the next episode of the smash hit about SHS football?

Jumper_Dad Posted September 7, 2011 Posted September 7, 2011 When is the next episode of the smash hit about SHS football? Had a bye week last week, don't know if they made one this week or not.
UK fball fan Posted September 8, 2011 Author Posted September 8, 2011 That's right, it was 2008 that Belfrey hammered them, regardless, they were favored in both games they got put out in the last 2 years.. They've simply not gotten over the hump that many thought they would. I guess I'm just curious if this years team has a little more in the tank to get them a title this year and if so, what's the difference with this team from the prior 2...
The sarge Posted September 8, 2011 Posted September 8, 2011 Getting beat by 5 points at Belfry after a 3 1/2 hour bus ride is getting hammered? Totally agree! They did not get smashed but were beaten.
