In terms of success of the teams and longevity and competition of the series, Tilghman-Mayfield is hard to beat. The programs have combined for 11 state titles (Mayfield 8, Tilghman 3) and both have won one in the last two seasons, and Tilghman holds a 47-40-10 lead in the series despite generally having about double Mayfield's enrollment. I'm told the Madisonville-Hopkinsville series predates Tilghman-Mayfield, but those programs haven't enjoyed the sustained the success of the Tornado and Cardinals.

I too put more stock in the Mayfield records. Over the last 25 years or so Mayfield has really closed the gap winning the majority of the contest

I heard Joe Paterno was at those games scouting players for Penn State

I'm just glad to see all the great rivalry games across the Commonwealth! It would be nice if the rest of the U.S.A knew about the many great rivalrys in our state. One note is that some games on paper are not mentioned is due to 2 different counties consolidating their schools. When that happens new mascots are named, new schools are built, etc... but the game continues for almost 100 years under different team names. I remember hearing my Grandparents talking about the Butler High School against Marion High School. The said the entire Thanksgiving week was dedicated to them playing. Now it is Caldwell Co. and Crittenden Co. I'm not trying to compare it to the X/T or the Male/Manual, but is comparison to town populations and the attendence it is really great due to the lack of population in our areas. I know that sounds like I'm being a homer, but just saying that high school rivalrys happen everywhere and they are good for all communities no matter the size.

Madisonville and Hopkinsville played on Thanksgiving Day every year from 1921-57. The series dates back to the early 1900s

Friday night will see people come back that planned their visits home around this game.
