I have had both and like Dish much better. I haven't experienced the customer service issue, the service always works, and the receivers are very intuitive.

 

It's been two years since I had it, and when I left they asked me why. I told them my biggest complaint was customer service. They informed me that they were making improvements on that, so it's certainly possible that those improvements have been made.

 

Seems to me that both of the companies treat prospective customers better than existing customers. They bend over backwards to get you in the door, but once you come in, the pampering goes away quite a bit. A neighbor & I both have come to the conclusion that your best bet might be to just switch back & forth every two years.

I think Dish and DTV are very similar but DTV has more HD channels if that kind of thing is more important to you.

 

You will get the NFL Ticket free this year if you sign up. So that is a plus with DTV.

The best thing Dish has to offer for me is the ability to run 2 tvs off one receiver. Thats what keeps me from checking on Direct TV, because every TV needs a receiver from them.

Directv doesnt have multi room recievers but they do have whole home dvr, which means you can watch anything on your dvr on any reciever.

 

As for getting deals w/ directv, theyre available. Just call and ask and tell them you arent happy with your monthly bill. They will usually lower it some way. If nothing else they will give you free hd for 2 yrs if you sign up for auto pay.

 

I recently called them and told them i wanted sunday ticket, but i wasnt paying full price. They told me theyd give it to me 1/2 off if i paid up front.

We are paying over $100 now for Insight and the first 12 months of DTV would be around $80 and that includes wifi from Cincy Bell. Plus the Sunday Ticket is free for the first year so that's a huge plus. I just don't want to miss my UK hoops so I guess I'll need to pony up the $12 a month.

Normally, you can cut off the sports package by the new year. UK plays most, if not all, its BBSN games in November & December. So it's really only ponying up $24 or thereabouts.

With 12/16 of the SEC games being nationally televised this season in addition to the non-conference national games, I think UK fans will be fine. DTV is your best choice by far. Been a customer since 2000.
