August 11, 201115 yr Wow that is awesome they don't just give #55 to any player. I think it was ESPN that did a story about the players who get to wear #55 at USC. The number cannot be taken but is assigned by the head coach. Pete Carroll and Kiffin had, at times, refrained from assigning the number if they did not think any player was worthy of it. The linebacker wearing #55 is typically regarded as the anchor of the defense. Notable players who have worn #55 for USC include Keith Rivers, Junior Seau, Willie McGinest, Markus Steele, and Chris Claiborne.
August 12, 201115 yr Although I am not a USC fan, I am very happy for Lamar and do not see anything happening for him except improvement. I have believed that the sky is the limit for him since he was in high school. I definitely look for him to have a very successful college career. Even though I'm not a USC fan, I'm very happy that he went onto a big program and wouldn't mind seeing them do good with him being there.
August 12, 201115 yr Those folks are why I started the thread. Maybe sooner or later they will realize UK didn't have a chance for Lamar after USC, Oregon and UT and even UCF came calling. I completely agree.

August 13, 201115 yr Dawson had five tackles during Monday night’s scrimmage, tying for third most on the team. Just as important, he was unfazed by the glare of the Coliseum lights. “Most of the guys at this point barely can line up once they get in that scenario,” Kiffin said. “He does not look like a true freshman out there, which is what we want. That’s what the really good guys in the past have done.” Kiffin said it’s too early to make definite decisions about the depth chart. But Dawson, who’s wearing the fabled No. 55 jersey, had taken the vast majority of the second-team reps before Galippo got hurt. http://usc.ocregister.com/2011/08/09/usc-football-freshman-dawson-playing-like-a-vet/72725/
