August 10, 201115 yr Looks like Lamar has been doing well and making good impressions out west. I found this article and have other tidbits of info... http://m.ocregister.com/sports/kiffin-311493-dawson-practice.html I have had trouble posting links from my phone but you can copy the address and paste it in your address bar to access it.
August 10, 201115 yr Author More info.....this is from the beginning of when their camp started....... And the latest news.... RT @InsideUSC: Chris Galippo said USC's freshmen linebackers, including Lamar Dawson, are currently overwhelmed by what they are learning in training camp
August 10, 201115 yr Author Info from their intrasquad scrimmage that was on Monday I believe........ Scrimmage stats: Linebacker Hayes Pullard and cornerback Anthony Brown, both redshirt freshmen, each had a game-high 6 tackles (Brown also had 2 deflections). Five other players added 5 stops apiece: safeties Demetrius Wright, Jawanza Starling and Marshall Jones, cornerback Tony Burnett and freshman linebacker Lamar Dawson. Defensive end Wes Horton had 3 tackles for losses, including 2 sacks. Freshman linebacker Tre Madden recovered a fumble.
August 10, 201115 yr Author These are comments made by Lane Kiffin when asked about Lamar Dawson made yesterday if I am not mistaken. 'He is pleased with freshman LB Lamar Dawson. The Kentucky native is playing right behind Chris Galippo at middle linebacker, so he moved to the #1 spot temporarily when the senior hurt his shoulder. "We have someone pretty special," Kiffin told his staff today.'
August 10, 201115 yr Author This link is the same story as my initial post but under a different title and has a picture of Lamar in the fabled #55 jersey..... http://usc.ocregister.com/2011/08/09/usc-football-freshman-dawson-playing-like-a-vet/72725/
August 10, 201115 yr That's awesome. I just hope he will stick it out. Not many people can say they played football at USC.
August 10, 201115 yr Author Me too, gchs. I have heard that everything is going good for him off the field and he is enjoying being out in California. Two different worlds. So far so good is what I am hearing. His success on the field so far has to be helping his experience also.
August 10, 201115 yr I'm wondering where the one or two are that flatly declared that Dawson would be "overwhelmed" by the talent at USC and a forgotten figure. Hmmmm. Way to go Lamar.

Those folks are why I started the thread. Maybe sooner or later they will realize UK didn't have a chance for Lamar after USC, Oregon and UT and even UCF came calling.
August 10, 201115 yr #55??? Nothing like a little added incentive. Best of luck to him. I hope that he represents Kentucky well.
August 10, 201115 yr I'm a huge USC fan, love seeing news of KY stand outs, especially ones at my favorite schools.
August 11, 201115 yr Those folks are why I started the thread. Maybe sooner or later they will realize UK didn't have a chance for Lamar after USC, Oregon and UT and even UCF came calling. From everything I heard, the week before he made the decision to go to USC his decision was to come to UK. All the UK coaches were starting to feel pretty good about their chances, and I don't think it was just wishful thinking. Dawson went to USC in the end but I've heard/read a lot of stuff that leads me to belive Kentucky was right there in the mix all the way down to the wire. Best of luck to him, always like to see Kentucky athletes succeed. USC is one of the most prestigious programs in America, cannot hate on the kid for taking advantage of an oppurtunity to play there.

Trust me, it was wishful thinking. Lamar pretty much let everyone know that after he picked USC. His believed to be final three were USC, Oregon and UT. UK was out of the running in December. I think he even liked UCF more than UK as that was his favorite visit. That is pretty much common knowledge here in Danville now. The pressure he was receiving from UK coaches and UK fans that he was surrounded by 24/7 made it too hard for him to let everyone know that UK had no chance. Everywhere he went from school to home to weekend parties it was constantly.."Lamar, come to Big Blue". He didn't like the new defensive coordinator at UK as much as the last one and he liked Charlie Strong a whole lot. Had he stayed in state, which wasn't happening, I am 98% sure he would have gone to UL before UK. The backlash he received from some UK fans(as well as Oregon fans), not all, after he committed to USC caused him to delete his facebook page and start a new one all over again. Can't blame him for keeping his recruitment so close to the vest through the whole process.
