Who will Belfry play in the Pike County Bowl?

Featured Replies

Highlands may be coming, at least if you listen to the rumors.

The Pike County Bowl Committee had a two year contract with Franklin County signed for 2011 and 2012. Franklin County was to play Belfry this year and Pikeville next season. Franklin County decided not to honor their commitment but the AD never notified the Pike County Bowl Committee nor the Belfry coaching staff. They found out about it when Franklin County's schedule was posted on the KHSAA website and this has left Belfry scrambling for an opponent for its opening game.

Lots of rumors are floating around about who Belfry will play. The most interesting one involves Highlands. They have a 9 game schedule, they are open that week, they would bring a nice crowd. Word here in Belfry is that they have been contacted but have not responded (from the newspaper article this weekend).

Rumors being what they are, I thought I'd ask the HHS faithful if they have any info? Have you heard any hint of this at all?

Nevermind, I found it on an old thread, August 19 HHS vs Boyle.

Thanks for clearing that up, that should be the end of that rumor. Too bad, it was fun to think about.

Highlands will be playing at Boyle County on August 19. They do have a full schedule this year that does not include a home and home with Ryle.

So it isn't going to be Highlands.

Does anyone have any other info out there of who it may be?

I know the Belfry staff and the PCB committee are searching high and low, both in state and out. It is hard to start jostling schedules around this late in the game.

I would say it is a blessing Highlands wasn't available. Getting beat and beat bad is no way to start the season for the Pirates.

When you consider Belfry overachieved last year an early season beat down could really shatter their confidence. They need a patsy in this game.

HHS would be good for the PCB, but I agree, not exactly what the Pirates need. A beatdown would make the trip to Henry Clay in week 2 much tougher, but I don't think they necessarily want a patsy. They do need a win, but I'd like to see it come in a competitive game.

Is there anyone available? I saw something about Shawnee not fielding a team this season. First, I don't know if that's true. But if it is true, could one of their opponents become an option?

They have been searching and calling. I heard Eminence was an option, not sure how reliable that was. Several OH and WV teams have been contacted also, but as far as I know, no luck yet in working out an opponent.

Scott Co. is a possibility.

How? They already have a game with Webster County that day.

Wow,that would be a real tough game for Eminence to keep competitive.
