Conner 7 Ryle 5

Resumed from last night.

Conner wins 7 - 5.

Way to go Cougars! Congrats on the win Coach Arlinghaus.

It seems year in and year out, Conner wins in baseball and Ryle wins in basketball. Very good rivalry going in Boone County!!

Congrats to Conner on the win. Two evenly matched teams going at it and both teams had plenty of chances to win it before the 11th. Really enjoyed watching the Ryle seniors over their careers - some great young men who will do great things. Best wishes to Conner in the region. They have as good of a chance as anyone of winning it. I really like the way Coach Arlo relates to his players - they really seem to enjoy playing as a team and he provides good encouragement. Nice work. Tough luck Raiders and you had an excellent season. Twenty win seasons are not easy to come by.

Bummer for Ryle. They are unquestionably one of the top 8 teams in the region and should be a Champion Window next week, but just didn't get it done tonight. Once again, bunting played a critical role in the conclusion of this game. Not to mentnion zero hits for Ryle in the last five innings of the game. Oh well, things happen. Great group of seniors who had some outstanding careers - Lonkard, Hempel, Gorbandt, O'Bryan, Isler, Etscheid, Steinle, and Truitt. Hate to see it end this way and I know the pain their parents are feeling personally, as Conner kicked us out of the tourney last season also.

Congrats to Cougars and best of luck at region. I was very impressed with Maines pitching. He also came on in relief in the championship game against Boone and did a very nice job. For my money, of the five Cougar pitchers I saw, he looked to be the toughest. Overall, I was pretty impressed with Conner's pitching - not overwhleming, but got the job done and kept their team in the game.

So did the absence of coach R for Ryle have any bearing in this one?

Probably not. Absence of effective sacrifice bunting sure as heck did, however.

After Ryle got out of the bases loaded, no outs, jam the previous night, the suspension of the game seems to have worked in Conner's favor.

Ryle definitely had the mo last night. But both teams showed up today and for today's pitchers (Isler and Maines) there was little time to work into the game and find a rhythm.

Maines threw really well in the 10th and 11th. Isler looked ok in the 10th but really didn't throw many strikes. Conner's hitters chased a lot.

In the 11th Leichty hits the grounder down the third base line that gets caught up in the mud and turns a single into a double. Double by Ryle, single by Williams, and a sac fly by Maines and that's it. 2 runs.

It's hindsight now of course but it seems Ryle might have been better served starting Lonkard in the 10th. He doesn't pitch much but looked good out there, probably in the low 80's and he was aggressive. But it was too late when he was brought in.

I got to talk to Gorbandt and Downs today and congratulated both on how well they pitched last night. I was really impressed. I was also impressed with Way for Conner who pitched 3 scoreless innings last night to get through the 7th, 8th, and 9th.

It's a shame that one of these teams has to be eliminated. Both are capable of winning multiple games in the regional.

I was very impressed with both Downs and Way last night. Ryle did have a chance in the bottom of the 10th after a single , the lack of bunting the runner over hurt Ryle again today. Unbelievable.....baseball sure is a humbling game. Good luck to both Conner and Boone in the Regionals. Ryle had a great year and the seniors will be missed.

Not really true. Last 6 years - Ryle record vs. Conner in baseball is 11-3-1. Conner just got the job done in the tourney for the last 2 years in baseball but Ryle has dominated the Cougars. Good luck to Conner this year. You earned the win. Incidentally, last 6 years, Ryle record vs. Conner in basketball is 9-6 and only because of 4-0 this year. Conner and Ryle have been very even in basketball, not so in baseball.

When did Black become a school color for Conner? Seems a bit odd to see Conner wearing Black jerseys.

Said the same thing myself last night. Wonder if it is grounds to protest the game? :D

I think they wore the black in the region a year or two ago. Not a fan. Stick with red, blue, or white.

I agree Clyde. Stay with the school colors. I believe they have worn Black all season.

Two quality teams, but in the 33rd it always lays out the importance of the regular season district games. As to bunting, many people believe that to bunt is to be weak. Many people are wrong. Year after year the Raiders are always claimed to be a direct decendant off of the CovCath bunting tree, but I don't see it.

Future looks good for the Raiders. As for the present good luck to Conner and Boone in the Region.
