Congrats to Cov Cath on winning the Jim Connor Classic. I believe this is the third straight year in which the Connor Classic Championship Game has featured CCH/HC.

Brian Fagel pitched 7 shutout innings to get the win. He was really dealing, congrats to the young man.

HC looks to start a new winning streak Monday against Beechwood.

Nice weekend for the CCH boys. Beat BW as well. Nice to see Tomlin and Fagel pitch well.

Congrats to CCH on winning this tournament. They righted the ship and started to gear up for the post season.

The 35th is going to be a fun tourney.

This win gives Krumps 25 straight 20-win seasons.

How many districts, other than the 35th, have every team with a winning record and 3 teams with 20 wins or more and are the top 3 in their region?

Beechwood 25 - 6

Covington Catholic 22 - 8

Holy Cross (Covington) 20 - 5

Holmes 10 - 9

And three of these teams could legitimately be called a favorite to win the region. There will be no easy games in that district. Holmes could even spring an upset with with their #1 guy on the mound.

The Good: It was without a doubt the most complete game to date played by CovCath this season in beating an outstanding team in Holy Cross District HS in the Championship game of the Coach Conner Classic @ Dixie.

Oh BTW the team that won this tourney last year, just to remind my HC friends, won the 35th District Championship!

There was no Bad or Ugly in this game for CovCath

Gruber’s Grill Defensive Star of the game: Going to go with a 2-4-2 play by Robinson to Best to Robinson in an attempted double steal of second and home in the HC bottom of the 2nd inning. Robinson and Best worked the play to perfection and kept the scoreboard clean for Fagel.

BAWAC Inc. Offensive Star of the game: Young Mr. Shreiver or you belong to me, who went 2 for 3 with a run scored and Jake Lankheit who didn't play in the District seeding game but who knocked in the first and only run CovCath needed to win the game. With Reese on third after hitting a double and a sac bunt by Best, Lankheit hits a long SF 9 to knock in Reese easily.

PeeWee's Place Star of the game:No doubt about this one, it's Junior Brain Fagel. The same young man who at 9am did a head first slide on the tarp into the water drain and came up soaking wet but with the biggest grin on his face ever. The same young man who hasn't gotten much of a chance to pitch due to the weather. The same young man who in the game prior, threw a strike from LF to Lankheit at the plate to nail a Beechwood player trying to score from 2nd on a single. The same young man who the week earlier came in to relieve Hellmann and kept LexCath in check through 4 innings giving up only 2 runs on three hits and yes the same young man as a 10th grader who shut down last years Ninth Region Champion Boone County Rebels in a regular season game.

Yep easily the Star of this game as Fagel threw a gem of a game against a team that was as hot as a August night and who had won 12 straight games.

CovCath pitching:

Fagel 92 pitches 7 complete innings 26 PA 4 hits 0 runs 1 walk and 6 k's

CovCath hitting:

Reese 4 PA 1 run 1 hit (double) 1 walk and 1 k

Best 4 PA 1 hit 1 walk 2 sac and 1 sb

Lankheit 4 PA 1 rbi and 1 sf

Severson 3 PA

Shreiver 3 PA 1 run and 2 hits

Schnieder 3 PA 1 walk and 1 sac

Nienaber 3 PA 1 hit and 1 k

Stein 3 PA and 1 k

Fagel 2 PA 1 rbi and 1 walk

Grosser 1 PA and 1 K

CovCath improves their record to 22-8 and next plays Conner at Conner @ 5pm on Monday.

VOR you are not the only one to believe that about Holmes. Tommy, Jesse and Poe could come up and bite someone in the butt if they are think they will walk over Holmes in the District.

Who pitched for HC?

If Robinson was catching where was Lankheit?

Is Schreiver CCH's best hitter right now?

I believe it was Broering, but I don't know if he pitched the entire game.

Sounds like he pitched very well. CCH only had 5 hits.

At third! Joe is a very good catcher and asking a kid to catch three games in one day is tough.

IMO no....

Broering 94 pitches 6 innings 5 hits 2 runs 2 earned 3 walks and 3 k's

Guidugli 10 pitches 1 inning 0 hits 1 walk and 1 k
