I heard a surprising comment from a rather liberal radio personality this morning that he thought it odd that Obama didn't really acknowledge the Bush administration for their part in all this and that he mostly spoke about the last two years. That being said, I haven't seen the interview as of yet, so I'm only going by what he said. My view is that both presidents played a part in it and both deserve credit. I truly hope president Obama sees it that way as well. I would guess he does.

On balance, I think it's debatable how much the entirety of Bush's efforts helped or hurt the cause.

I think only because we don't know the details of the hunt.

I think I could respect your belief in this matter more if you were also as vehemently opposed to adultery, sex outside of marriage and divorce.

 

I am against divorce and adultery. you should never get married unless you are committed to that person. times are way differernt now than when I grew up, too relaxed and open, no respect for elders, and too much tech.

Some of that reason was that Obama had no real choice. We ended up in a position in Iraq where there was no real good way to bow out of the situation. If we had bailed immediately, as some on the left wanted, we would have left the place in an absolute mess and ripe for the picking for a government led by Muslim extremists.

 

It's Colin Powell's "Pottery Barn" rule ... if you break it, you own it. We broke it and, once we did that, committed to "owning" it for quite a while.

 

To a certain extent, the same was true in Afghanistan, perhaps in part because we scaled down our efforts there to focus on Iraq.

 

I don't have a real problem with the things that have been done in the intelligence community to combat terrorism, in terms of beefing up our numbers and surveillance capabilities, etc. All that could have been done without committing ourselves to an unnecessary war that sapped a lot of our resources and contributed to the financial issues (deficit and debt) that we're now battling.
