Did you look at the links and the polls? People would rather pay higher taxes than to do away with either social security or medicare. I am not backtracking, you bolded Vast Majority and I showed you polls, from conservative sites mind you, that a vast majority want to keep the programs.

The programs are not the worst liberal policies out there but they are unsustainable unless substantial changes are made...

Looks like it has 6 jobs to me. Social Security and Medicare are considered by a VAST MAJORITY of people to be two of the greatest programs this country has ever developed. They have been what have kept many of our seniors out of poverty. You also know that Social Security contributes nothing to the nations debt don't you?

If those are not two of the greatest, show me a poll that says otherwise. Even during the height of the tea part protests, when people were asked about healthcare the scare was that somehow medicare was going to be reduced or revised. I think if you polled the American people the vast majority would go with Christianity in this country - thinking its the best. As I said, the vast majority think medicare and SS are GREAT. Where is a poll or anything to refute that the vast majority of the people in this country love medicare and SS?

Who did they poll? What were their methods? it's not exactly a scientific poll now was it?

 

Ace, you're simply wrong with your vast majority comments when it comes to people thinking they are great. Make it simple on yourself. Go out and ask 100 people and get back to me. I'll bet you don't get ten that say it's great.

Cry me a river. Do you pay into Social Security? I do, I'm 50 years old, have been paying into it for over 30 years and I have ZERO confidence that I will ever get any benefit from it. With no offense intended the more I read of your "wisdom" the less respect I have for your views. You don't pay into Social Security, you will get a fixed benefit pension when you retire (after ONLY 27 years of service if I'm not mistaken) and you have the audacity to tell the rest of us who do have to depend on the future of Social Security and do have to fund our own retirement funds to just sit back and shut up the government knows best. Then again with a sweet deal like that I can see where you would be ecstatic with the status quo. No wonder you're not worried about Social Security, you don't have to rely on it.

Never said I wasn't worried about, but apparently you too think it is a good program and you want it to continue. I wasn't complaining about not getting to participating, just getting all of the facts out there. And I do contribute to my pension, we have been through this before. I contribute more than 10% of my paycheck each pay period to my retirement. 27 years does not give me full benefit, that occurs after 30. CBO (I think), or at least an independent 3rd party has said SS - under the status quo - is solvent until 2037 maybe longer. Lets see, if you are 50 now you will be 76 when we are supposed to even have a problem with SS - unless of course the republicans screw it up before then.

 

Still not seen a single person that says SS is a bad program.
