Covington Latin

Hmmm ... I didn't know that. What round?

Back in the day they had lots of rounds. He went in the 8th round.

Thats what i thought. His daughter Lauren signed a full ride for volleyball. I believe Daniel is playing somewhere d2. Quite the sports family!

Correct. I think Lauren has actually already enrolled at UK and the son is in TN at a D2 school.

In the late 60's and maybe the early 70's there was a conference called the Northern Kentucky Independent Athletic Conference that Covington Latin was a part of. It was comprised of Brossart, St. Henry, Silver Grove, St. Thomas, and maybe Walton-Verona.

CovLatin actually had some teams that were competitive with those schools back then, and my thinking is that the picture in reference might have been of a team that had some success in that conference race.

Yes Father Ed Heile was the head coach for years at Covington Latin and had some teams that did acheive some success..................

Brian O'Connor. He holds a lot of the records at Thomas More and played pro basketball in Europe and the CBA for the Cincinnati Slammers. The O'Connors that played at Scott the last couple of years are his son and daughter.

Another "Ft. Thomas boy" done good! Big Oak was 6'8" or 9" and could step out and drain it. Would have probably played at a higher college level had he gone to a school with more exposure...and gotten the extra playing eligibility. (CovLatin kids skip grades 7 & 8). But had an outstanding career at TMC, anyway.

He would have looked pretty good for the old St. Thomas Tomcats alongside recent "NKY Hall of Famers" Carl Hafele and Matt "Gabby" Giesler. Maybe they could have even won the district. :D

Back then I believe Thomas More was NAIA and played in the conference with Pikeville, Berea and a bunch of other Ky. NAIA schools.

In a different 'Latin' thread a couple of weeks ago I said that O'Conner was a 1976 grad, but judging by Thomas More's website he might've been a 1977 grad of Latin instead. I watched many games of the 1974/1975 Latin season because my neighbor played for them, so I'm guessing that Brian would've been a sophomore then. Not sure if I recall seeing him play or not. How was Latin's team when he was a junior or senior I wonder? All this talk about Latin is making me want to get busy with the mircrofilm down at the Library.

O'Conner was a 1976 Latin grad and redshirted his first year at Thomas More. I don't believe his Latin teams made it out of the districts. Stower's class may be the only one that may have made it.

Off topic, but isnt Cov Latin home to baseball/Atlanta Brave great David Justice?

Yes David Justice went to Latin then to Thomas More. Did not play HS baseball (not even sure if they fielded a team during his years). Played baseball for Jim Connor at TMC.
