Kendrick Perkins to Oklahoma City

Featured Replies

We're on the same page I think. I do not think it's a good move to match up with Miami. A duo of Shaq and Perkins could have really dominated Miami, now I think Shaq and Garnett will have to play too many minutes over the course of the playoffs. I guess we'll see, this is going to be an awesome playoffs coming up :thumb:.

I am pumped for the NBA playoffs.

I wonder if there is more to this than what meets the eye. The Celtics and everyone else know how valuable Perkins is to their success.

It wasn't a chemistry issues but I agree it just seems very odd.

Paul Pierce has been slowed by injuries or old age lately so the deal for Green makes even more sense if they are going to rest Pierce some during the season. Boston needs to do whatever they can not to finish 3rd in the East. I don't think they want to have to beat Miami and Chicago on the road. Not to mention the advantage it is to finsih 1st and play Orlando rather than Chicago or Miami in the 2nd round.

I don't think this was a move to make them better immediately. They must still think they can win it without Perkins, as they almost did last year when he got injured. I really like this trade for both teams. Got some guys about to retire for the Celtics. Time to start bringing in their replacements so they can continue to be contenders for years to come. I tell ya... Those Boston Celtics are a smart organization. I trust any move they make.

The past 3-4 years, sure. But many people forget how maligned Ainge, Rivers, and the Celtics in general were before they were able to bring in Garnett, Allen, and hit the jackpot with Rondo. Danny Ainge was approaching Isiah Thomas status at one point.

I'll be completely honest. I never really paid attention to them until Rondo got drafted and they brought in Allen (top 3 all-time favorite of mine). So I can only comment on what I've seen since then.

Yeah pretty much right on.

I think the Celtics were really worried about Perkins' health, I think thats what it all boils down too.

I know they wanted an extra wing since they were banged up in that area and didn't want to work Paul Pierce to death, but Perkins was very valuable for what they were about. No way he leaves if he is 100% healthy and recovered from the injury. His progress had to have been something the Celtics weren't too optimistic about.

From what I've read, the Celts weren't worried about his health, they were not likely to re-sign him, therefore they traded him for something instead of losing him with no return value.

He is going to miss 2-3 weeks with a knee injury. He has only played in 12 games this year. I would be a little concerned if I were OKC.

It was a big risk to trade for an injured player

Especially a big man with a knee injury, considering the knees take on most of your body weight and Perkins isn't a small guy.

I know guys like Penny Hardaway and others made the transitions in their games from being explosive play makers on the wing to inside bangers after their severe knee injuries, but this is different. Perkins is an actual post player with actual post player size, the knee will give him problems for the rest of his career. That is a lot of weight to put on that knee, and just because playing in the post don't mean as much running around on the perimeter you still have to get banged around and attack the glass for boards.

4 years 35 Mil, I am still a bit worried about his knee. I guess they aren't too worried.
