I made the trip south to catch this game, the undersized Wildcats are pretty scrappy.

It's amazing how much coach Jones gets out of his kids. I never think they are as good as they perform, but not only do they win they beat teams that most people think do not belong on the floor with.

I always thought the same thing but I guess Gallatin wouldn't have won all those games the past few years if they were not talented, if not tall. (They always seem short and undersized.)

To assume that Gallatin never has talent is an insult to Coach Jones and his kids. Small and thin? Yes. But not without some talent. Yes, they do out perform more talented teams on a regular basis.

I never meant to imply that Gallatin has no talent. Coach Jones's had 2 boys that could play, Trent Maddox was a real nice player and all the Carltons know how to win. Some talent and a lot of heart will beat some really good teams.

I agree El. Gallatin has had the good fortune of having a long cycle(for a A school) of talent. Talent makes coaches look great and lack of talent makes the best coach look bad. Good coaches do make a difference but the kids have the most effect on the game. Gallatins talent didnt just happen over night. If I am correct many of these Gallatin teams the last 7 years have been undefeated as middle schoolers.

I am uncertain about undefeated middle school records or what have you. However, the point is these kids can play ball and all have bought into a system that Jones himself has worked hard to build from the grade school levels on up. By the time they are in 9th grade, these kids have had a lot of exposure to Jones and his staff through various camps he holds, and games he attends. This exposure gets them somewhat prepared for what is to come so the learning curves are not so drastic. Besides all of that, the kids seem to love to play for Jones and will give it all on the court when they lace it up. Not many other programs at the small school level can say that.

I'll say simply what I've repeated many, many times over the years: Jon Jones doesn't get NEARLY the accolades he deserves as a coach. One of the elite coaches in the 8th region, period.

I totally agree. Jon doesn't have the most talent in the region but he always has a winner. He takes what he has and makes them contenders each and every year. The kids love and respect him and he shows the same in return.
