Connor Crowley drilled a big 3 ball down 2 late in the game then came back amd stroked a pull up jumper with less than a minute left. Al Dean sealed it penetrating the lane and scoring the deciding bucket with 10 seconds left. Schroder drove the length of the court opting not to call a timeout and threw up an errant shot rebounded by Dean and held as the buzzer sounded.

 

Next up for Highlands is Henry Clay on Friday.

Nice win and very good effort by the Birds last night. Very exciting game to watch. Hope Bird fans turn out - five home games over the next 9 or 10 days.

I thought the Birds played pretty well last night against a team that was much bigger than them both in height and in weight. Pat Towles did a very nice job in the middle and Jake True offered some quality minutes in limited playing time. Crowley was very steady last night on both ends of the floor. Sam Lewis had some nice drives to the rim early in the game and Ryan Egan had some big threes in the second half. Alex Dean played very well last night at the point guard position with very few if any turnovers against a much quicker and more physical team. His left handed take to the rack over a 6'7" defender was a thing of beauty that put the Birds up by 2. Only downfall was the free throw shooting at the end of the game which allowed Shroder to have a game tying chance with 10 seconds left in game. Dean missed the conversion when fouled on the drive and then missed the front end of a one and one a few seconds later. Ryan Egan then proceeded to miss 2 on a double bonus when fouled on a rebound. If the Birds can keep teams close for three and a half quarters then they have a chance to win.

I think its funny Highlands fans where ripping on SK for playing Schroder in football but Highlands turns around and plays them in basketball that is good stuff right there!

Basketball and football are two different sports. Usually inner city schools are better at basketball than football..I think you know that though..

Teams become powerhouses when they schedule Highlands I guess?

Bluebirds get a win. That's the important point to take from this game. I don't care who it was against, where they are from, or who they have played. The Birds need some W's. Maybe they can get healthy, gain some confidence and make some noise in the next 6 weeks.

They had 6'7, 6'5 and 6'5 on the frontline and from what my son told me pretty physical. Lets face it its a win and every game they win with Stewart out is a bonus. He is as important to this team as Geisler and Thelen are to their respective teams.
