I didn't say that did I? What I did say was that I would rather see the money spent directly by the state for the child's care then to be given to a parent who could then use it to buy illegal drugs. If that translates to taking kids away from dope smokers then so be it.

 

I have ZERO problem applying a differnet standard to those that live on the state's dime then those that don't.

I guess I'm confused on how you're not going to remove the child yet not have the parent get access to a check YET the child is still cared for.

Maybe you are going to have to remove the child. If the person is using illegal drugs (or legal drugs illegally) then they shouldn't get 1 cent from the government. If that would be detrimental to their children then maybe the children should be removed from their custody.

Then they are the rare exception that is just going to be out of luck and to prove it are going to admit to a crime. I'm not too concerned for the people in that loop hole.

With the advances in technology these days there has to be a way to design a process that doesn't give cash, only credit. And is non transferable. No change given.

This would ensure that the tax payer money is used on only approved items...no beer no drugs no smokes.

I watched the news last night and they had a segment on discussing the possibility of people being required to take random drug tests if receiving medicaid, food assistance, and other types of government assistance. It was also mentioned that a key official within the Commonwealth is all for this happening and has voted for it.

I completely agree and this is why I'm in the middle on this. I am not saying that any drug is good, but there are far more things worst than weed, including alcohol. If the person being tested has a toxic/illegal amount of pain pills, nerve pills, cocaine, heroin, etc., I'm all for it.

I don't have to. That's what we have legislators for. How do you define it?

 

The most realistic definition is moderation, which is something that many people do not have that do most drugs/narcotics.

It probablly is, but I have little patience for drug users or dealers. Not to mention a single pill some of them take can cost upwards of a hundred dollars.

If the parent is poor enough to need welfare, they aren't able to support their weed habit and their children. They don't have the financial ability to do it. If they test positive for weed, it's obvious they've choosen that over caring for their child. The child isn't getting the proper care if their parents are spending their welfare checks on weed.

Who says a friend didn't smoke them out. Or maybe they only use it a few times a year. Your statements are too black and white.

 

It amazes me that so called "conservatives", "small government people", "libertarians", etc. would support such an initiative.
