I have a question that maybe a Panda fan can answer for me and I have been curious about for a while. I see the bumper stickers around town that have the paw that spells out paNDAs. Was the nickname created because it had NDA within the nickname or is it just a coincidence?

I was told years ago that PANDAS was indeed chosen because it contains NDA and that OLP (Our Lady of Providence) had chosen DOLPHINS as their nickname for the same reason. OLP obviously went on to merge with Newport Catholic, and Newport Central Catholic was formed.

You are correct that Dunn is a senior. Allie Conner is currently injured and did not play last night. Bryson is a junior transfer from Johnson Central. You are correct on the soph's that you mentioned. Not sure what grade Glenn is in, but I believe that she to is a soph. Adler is just a 7th grader and has been pushed up the ladder rather quickly which seems to be a staple of the Highlands girls program these days. Only other senior on the roster is Sydney Groneck and the only junior is Sydney Watson who is recovering from an injured knee. As with the boys team, there is not a lot of experience and the upper classes are rather thin. Be interesting to see how this program progresses in the next several years as there are some pretty good players in the pipeline. Question will be whether or not they choose to stick with basketball.

This same thing, pushing kids up early, happened a few years ago, but the results just resulted in a lot of promise and talk about all the young kids playing. Ultimately they won a lot of regular season games but always dissappeared in the post season. Will be interesting to see if this happens again. Maybe this is why there are not many seniors on the team.

There were a couple of pretty decent players in this class. As 8th graders the won the Frosh Scott Holiday tournament. They went throught NDA, Boone County, Ryle, and Simon Kenton to win gold. There is now one player Conner, from that class that played on that team. Now there are more than reason that all of these girls didn't stick around, but I am guessing the above mentioned also played a contributing factor. As fars as the Jr. class, I knew these girls pretty well, it was also a solid class.

That is just my point. HHS always seems to have very good young players, like the senior group you mention, but as the years go on they loose to the teams they beat when they were young. Like you say, there are probably a number of reasons, but it just seems as the younger kids get older they are replaced by different younger players and it never seems to really come together.
