Bowling Green 3 Hopkinsville 0

Wow

BGHS scored with 0:33 left in the first quarter on a 33-yd FG by junior K Casey Tinius, then the magnificent BGHS defense made it stand up for the win! This is BGHS's first on-the-field win over the Tigers since the 1997 Greenview Heritage Bowl at BGHS, when the Purples won 40-14 after falling behind 14-0. The game is also the Purples' eighth shutout in nine games. The eighth shutout this season is a new school record.

Hoptown had two chances early on. They failed on fourth down deep in Purple territory, then also fumbled the ball on first and goal, and BGHS recovered on their own five. But BGHS had their chances late to put it away emphatically as well. Junior HB Avery Hibbitt scored on a 31-yd run, but it was wiped out on a penalty, and fourth and inches became fourth and five. Avery missed out by inches and the Purples turned it over on downs. Tinius missed a FG attempt in the fourth quarter as well.

If you like defensive struggles, this was your game!! Both defenses came through when they needed to. Big time congratulations to the Tigers for a superb effort tonight! :ylsuper:

The Purples win their first 3A Region One Championship since 1998. They will host the Region Two winner (either Bullitt East or Boyle Co) next week. Their record is now extended to 12-1 on the season.

Now, pardon me while I TWIST some tonight...!! :dancingpa :dancingpa :dancingpa

then also fumbled the ball on first and goal, and BGHS recovered on their own five.

Man that one hurt the Tigers tremendously!

The Bullitt East Chargers will visit Donaldson Stadium/Beard Field next week to take on the Purples! Should be a really good one! :D

Can believe the score WOW..........

No shame in losing to Bowling Green!! Opening drive Hoptown's drive ended at the BG 21. BG's opening drive resulted in the only points of the night. But the killer was 1st and goal on the BG 5 and Chris Thomas hits the FB with the ball and it ends up on the ground for BG to pounce on. Give BG credit they were able to move the ball out of the goal line and not stay backed up.

Good physical game really pleased with hitting of the Tigers tonight. We just couldn't get that one big play to get over the hump. Had some real nice plays but didn't get the big play. BG plays good sound physical defense and it was hard to get outside tonight.

Can't fault the effort Hopkinsville put forward. They went toe to toe with the #1 team in 3A and a team many fans said they didn't belong on the same field with. QB Chris Thomas had a bad game and missed some things that were there. He'll get some criticsm from people outside the program on his play tonight. Most though don't know the progress he has made from the end of last year to this year. In the end the better team won but the Tigers showed that they did belong on the same field but BG had just a few more positives.

This BG team is very comparable to the 1995 team. This team might be a little more fundamentally sound. They don't take plays off and might have more depth then the 95 BG team.

I honestly think BG has the best Defense in the state.

I honestly think BG has the best Defense in the state.

Ya Think!!! :D

Between them and X, give the nod to the purples

Bardstowns defense is the most underrated in the state, i know that for a fact!

Any chance of Bowling Green and Warren Central co-hosting a doubleheader at WKU?

Hey 'Talker!

When you see the guys, tell 'em that an old, grizzled Purples fan said that they played a very gutsy game! Tell 'em I said that this was a game that fits in quite well in the history of the series. It might as well have been one of those no-holds-barred gut checks from the 1930s in the old Western KY Conference!! It was another (fourth in a row) of GREAT games between these two old WKC rivals...the only difference was that my side won this time! My hat's off to your guys for a marvelous effort! :thumb:

The BGHS win ended the longest win streak by Hoptown over the Purples (three games) since 1968-1974, when the Tigers won seven in a row. The Tigers won in 1974 when I was a soph, then we won my last two years on the varsity. In 1975, the Tigers scored ten points in the first two minutes, but we outscored them 41-13 the rest of the game at Walnut Street. My senior year in 1976, we beat them for the first time ever at our current facility after losing their first three appearances at our new place. Hoptown now leads the all time series 33-25-4, and the first game of the series took place in 1927, when Walnut Street Stadium was only one year old!

Mrs PH has interjected a little superstition tonight. She said that I had to eat a Mr Gatti's pizza tonight just like I've been doing most of the season, and when you all were trying to execute the winning drive, she suddenly remembered that I wasn't wearing my 1976 gold jersey (I've been wearing it every game night this season!). She was horrified, so she made me jam it on real quick. The drive stopped...game over! Almost makes you want to believe in superstitions...! By the way, the pizza was a large thin with pepperoni, ground beef, mushrooms, and extra pizza sauce!

Another slam-bang football game between two great programs, 'Talker! :thumb: :thumb:

If I hear something, I will let you know. I'll put a bug in Kevin's ear this weekend! That would be a super idea!! :D

I've been told that Bowling Green suggested this to the powers that be at Warren Central a few weeks ago. I would love to see it.

Congrats on the great win BG! We've got two great programs making the town proud! Next Friday will be crazy in BG!
