Michael Vick would like to own a dog again.

To be fair, the entire quote should be used.

"I would love to get another dog in the future. I think it would be a big step for me in the rehabilitation process," Vick said.

I agree with that 100%.

Depends on how you look at the Vick crime. If you think that he was in the dog fighting business because he got a sick pleasure out of seeing dogs rip each others fleshes off, then I guess it would be. I could be dumb or naive, but I've always just assumed it was gambling for Vick and nothing more.

I think it was his way of "taking care of his boys". He didn't need the money this was bringing in, his boys did need it. He seemed like he would do anything for them and they sold him out the first time they were put in a tough position. I have been very critical of Vick on and off the field and I'll tell you this, I think (and hope) he is a changed man. I may be wrong and I guess only time will tell for sure. I was brought up to see the good in everyone so maybe I'm wrong, but I really believe he has learned and will continue to grow as a person.

I do agree it is not something he needed to make public right now though.

I don't have a problem with him owning a dog in present or future. I just don't think that is something the public is ready to acknowledge. Way too soon for him to be announcing that the world. I have no problem at all with Vick. Never did in the past and I still like him now. It just looks like the people around him aren't giving him good advice(again). I hope that doesn't become a problem in the future. A little discretion please, Mike? Thank you.

Isn't this kind of like someone on the sexual predator list saying he's ready to adopt?

Great analogy.

I do too. Still too soon to tell the world. Rehab quietly is all I am saying.

I agree. I think his story is a story of the consequences of keeping bad company. Not saying he wasn't involved or guilty, I just think his "boys" had more to do with the operation than him and that he ending up taking the fall for all of them while they served less time. Vick is extremely lucky to have bounced back from this. I am happy for him and hope he continues to shine on and off the field.

Whatever dog he chooses will live quite the life, no doubt.

Didn't he bash some dogs heads in on concrete...drown some in buckets of water etc.?

After reading what PP92 and CCC wrote this is exactly what I was thinking. His "boys" may have gotten him into it and it could have been mainly for the "gambling", but Vick himself did execute the dogs in a heinous manner which negates any reasons he may have had for getting into it or his reasons for doing it. I do think it is naive to forget that and personally I feel that he has lost the privilege to ever own ANY pet again. As Jim's analogy alludes to we wouldn't allow a sexual predator to adopt just as I feel we shouldn't grant people who mistreat animals the privilege of owning one again. Vick may have changed and I hope he truly does and personally I will root for him to succeed in becoming a better person---but I draw the line at allowing him to adopt a dog.

I won't attempt to defend Vick for what he did. He made is bed so to speak. I will say that he has more then paid for what he did and I will give him the benefit of the doubt until proven otherwise.

What I do find funny is several of my friends on facebook always post what a scum bag and low life Vick is when ever the eagles are playing. Then turn around and post something about God and Jesus. I wonder if Jesus would object to Vick owning a dog?

I have no issue with it...The guy committed a stupid crime, served his punishment, and should be able to do whatever he wants, within the law of course.

Agree!

Regardless of his motives for getting involved in it, it's clear that at no point did he regard the dogs any more highly than the dirt on the ground. I think that's where most dog-lovers' objections come from.

Vick doesn't deserve to own a dog. Someone who has electrocuted a dog in the past does not deserve to own another one.
