Couldn't you just as easy say that "we have nothing to go on in saying that they could or could not do it, but based on their lack of quality opponents on their past schedules I think it's only fair to err on the side of caution and say it's unlikely."?

 

Bottomline is we aren't going to find out because a 1 loss LSU or a 1 loss Auburn will be ranked ahead of them at season's end either way IMO.

 

I see no way that LSU will get there. I feel that if Auburn loses the voters will put teams over LSU and prevent them from getting there, just as they should. If you don't win your conference there is no way you're the best team in the country in this system.

 

As for Boise and erring on the side of caution, I think looking at the history of college football would tell you not to do just that. They are have more in common with the teams that I mentioned earlier (going off success, states, etc.) than they do teams like Hawaii or even TCU. Who has TCU beaten the last few years, Utah? The win over Boise two years ago is their signature win.

I agree. After letting in Nebraska after not winning their conference, it is highly unlikely they will ever let in another non-conference winner (see Michigan from a few years ago). Only way I see LSU making it is by some odd scenario where Boise State, Oregon, tOSU, Nebraska, and TCU all lose again and LSU would face an undefeated Auburn team in the title game. Not gonna happen.

That's about how I see it. I think Auburn would have a better chance with a late loss than LSU. I give LSU about the same chance as I give UK of being in the MNC game.

If Boise wins next week with playing a ranked team, they will leap over TCU. I also don't see Auburn beating Alabama on the road, and also see a strong possibility in Oregon losing before the season ends, which could very well happen this week against Arizona.

 

During the beginning of the season, many said that Virginia Tech would kill Boise due to losing the week after Boise beat them to James Madison. VT has beaten everyone in the ACC and if they go on to win the conference title, that is huge for Boise. The ACC is weak, but do not forget the ACC is an automatic qualifier for a major BCS game. Could be just what the doctor ordered for Boise.
