November 11, 201015 yr Didn't hear it, but over at KSR they're claiming Cowherd today took shots at Wall by taking shots at Wall's deceased father....If that is indeed what happened, it's disgusting. I think KSR got some bad info. I was listening today and didn't hear anything like that.
November 11, 201015 yr Author I think KSR got some bad info. I was listening today and didn't hear anything like that. Here are the tweets from SeanBielawski: @Aaron_Torres Yeah... felt bad once I sent it b/c that's what he wants. However, it's tough to let that comment slide. about 3 hours ago via TweetDeck in reply to Aaron_Torres Reply Retweet @InTheBleachers Exactly. With his platform, it is unbelievably irresponsible. about 3 hours ago via TweetDeck in reply to InTheBleachers @InTheBleachers I feel bad for tweeting that and giving him attention, but goodness. The stereotypes just pour out. about 3 hours ago via TweetDeck in reply to InTheBleachers This was in the middle of his segment on the John Wall "bakery," because he specializes in turnovers. Gees... about 3 hours ago via TweetDeck Wow... Cowherd (talking about John Wall) says when picking a point guard, he asks, "Who's your dad?"
November 11, 201015 yr Cowherd isn't an idiot like some people like to think. He knows EXACTLY what he is doing and it is obviously working for him. People are listening to him and talking about him and that's all that matters. It doesn't matter why people are listening as long as they are. This story has not made me want to listen to him, or watch his show at all. And I haven't listened to him, or watched his show at all since reading it.

I'd suggest we get a look at the transcript or hear the clip. It's not on the podcast. I know he was talking about types of PGs. He was very complimentary of Wall's talent. He just thinks he's too much of a scoring PG and not a "true" PG based on his style. My guess is that he was using the "who's you dad" comment to stress that a team needs a calming influence/steady/under control. I'd be stunned if he took a shot at Wall's dad.
November 11, 201015 yr Doug Gotlieb is pointing out that Colin is wrong on this one on the SVP Show right now. A few of the points... Nash, Kidd, Stockton - No titles. Rondo - 6 ppg, 4 apg as a rookie. If Colin paid attention to college basketball, he'd know that John Wall won about 9 games by himself. The Herd is my favorite show on ESPN, so I like Colin. They guy gives his opinion, plain and simple, and I agree with much of what he thinks. This would just fall into the category of things I disagree on. Wall has never seemed like a "me first" player, nor have I heard anyone else ever say that. I'm guessing one of two things happened (or maybe a combination of both)... 1. The dancing irritated Colin and he's making a judgment based on very limited knowledge about Wall. 2. He knows he can generate a lot of reaction with comments about a guy of Wall's status. I'd be surprised if Cowherd was ignorant of the response this would bring from UK fans prior to making the comments. I'm almost certain he knew. So, maybe it was one or the other, or a little of both in this case. He's still the best guy to listen on ESPN Radio, IMO. I don't see the big deal. He gave an opinion that many people disagree with. It isn't the first time, nor will it be the last. I think SVP and Russillo are the best on ESPN Radio followed by Mike/Mike. Cowherd makes my skin crawl.

November 11, 201015 yr I completely agree with SVP! Years ago I was listening to SVP when he called into Spielman's local Columbus radio show. He was so good and funny that you just knew he was getting his own radio gig some day. Easily my fave ESPNer.

I don't know Sean Bielawski either, but supposedly he has a radio show on ESPN. I, like you, would be shocked if he took a shot at Wall's father; however, I haven't listened to it, so I can't say for certain. I wonder what Cowherd didn't like about Wall's performance last night? Was it the 19 points? Or the 10 boards? Or the 13 assists? Or the 6 steals? Or the fact that he only had 1 turnover? Or maybe he was displeased that he only shot 50% from the field (8/16).

Maybe he had no idea and gets spoonfed information like that and spins it to tick people like us off and consequently boost his ratings.

Well I don't think the ratings point is accurate but if he truly wanted to find an easy touch ie an easy fanbase to get upset over the slightest of slights....it's us.
November 11, 201015 yr BTW I could be completely wrong on this. Maybe he did mean to say family matters. My guess is the uproar about this on KY and DC blogs will cause him to address it on Friday.
