the play was about 10 yards in from the sideline plus if you look at the video all the people in that area were celebrating after the play. A lot of people make claims that really aren't true! Just my opinion!

It's obvious which way the fans lean...the unbiased fans, even an on-field reporter, seem to feel the nose of the ball crossed. Instant replay doesn't show enough conclusive evidence to overturn the call

 

BW has been in a couple of games with early leads against very good teams and didn't keep their composure during comebacks. NCC had to play from behind and didn't show discipline (penalties) and wasn't very composed like the #1 team should have been. BW now knows they "can" win a close game and NCC now knows they "can" lose.

Not so obvious. I spoke w/ a couple of people that were there that are not NewCath fans that were sitting on the end of the stands, or standing along the fence and they said that they didn't believe that possessed the ball. Then you speak w/ others that said he did. There were only a finite amount of people w/ an actual angle good enough to dispute the refs call and it seems as if their views are not cut and dry. Nobody was going to be happy w/ whatever call was made. It is what makes sports great, and this call will be disputed b/n the fan bases forever. That being said, I didn't have a good angle so I'm not going to say "yeah" or "nay" on it.

 

As for the game, this was great for NewCath. If you come out and play less than you are capable, even if it is only one step lower, a good team will jump right on you. NewCath fought back, but it was too little too late. As I said in earlier posts, you can't let it get to the judges' cards, you have to deliver the knock out.

 

As for Beechwood not keeping their composure, I think that they were a little tired. NewCath's lines are enormous and had been beating on their linemen on offense and defense. Beechwood went toe-to-toe, there's just so much the body can take. They did lose #11 twice for two big pass plays, and Hitchew had a good run, but other than that, I don't think that it was composure as much as NewCath getting on their blocks and Beechwood getting a little gassed.

 

NewCath, on the other hand, has been shooting themselves in the foot w/ false starts since 2007. It's like a Steve Blass Syndrome, just one of those things that is there and nobody can figure it out. The personal foul on the fourth down conversion was the only other penalty that you can really shake your head at. The face masks would have been incidental in the past, but now are automatic 15 yarders, those are unfortunate, but not a result of stupidity.

 

You are correct, this was a great game for both.

I wish this game didn't end the way it did, but it did. I'm glad I was able to see it bc it was a classic Newcath/Beechwood prize fight. Time to move on to bigger and better things though. Newcath and Beechwood both have solid opportunities to win state championships this year, and I truly hope that the lessons they learned and the heartache they felt during the 4th quarter and OT's help propel them on their run for state titles. Best of luck to both going forward.

Ball was probably on his right hand side which may or may not be in the end zone. Regardless, it was a tough call for the official. He got it right on the catch. I'll trust his eyes since we can't get a definitive angle.

He had the ball in both hands (similar to what it was in the 2nd picture when he crossed over). Nearly identical. He never switched to just one arm (which makes good sense ... but this picture is indicative of how he turned with the ball--with similar hand placement).

Those pics are the best evidence I have seen that it was a catch and that he made the end zone. Regardless of the angle of the pic not being 100% conclusive, when you add in the knowledge that an official was straddling the end zone line with a perfect view, any objective observor has to say the 2 point conversion was good.

In fairness to him, at Newport Stadium where that play took place, he could conceivably been as close as 10ft from the play and been right on the goal line. There were people on the track right there.

The pics just add to the confusion. Everyone will see what they want to see. In the first pic he was just about to take a step to cement that it was a catch. On the second, the ball was out. I would like to see the in between. That's where the answer lies
