Should Boone Lose Their Ryle Game Intentionally?

Conner makes the playoffs .

Boone loses/Cooper wins:

1. Ryle

2. SK/CC

3. SK/CC

4.Conner

4.Boone

4. Cooper

Boone makes the playoffs due to winning the 3-way tiebreaker.

THAT's why there is no incentive for Boone to win. It could keep them out.

You ignored the first scenario where Boone wins AND they don't make the playoffs. That's my point.

But, what about the third scenario? Where Boone loses and Conner wins?

Come on Clyde ... step back and think about this for a second. You are a smart guy. It does not matter if Boone wins or loses so there is no incentive to lose. They can not gain anything by losing. If Boone loses, they only get in if Cooper wins. If Boone wins, they only get in if Cooper wins. Cooper must win and that is the only variable that changes whether Boone gets in. Boone's win or loss has no impact on the playoff result.

Conner is in.

Conner is in.

So Boone would lose intentionally and betting on Conner to lose.

I must admit that I'm having trouble understanding why this is difficult to follow.

You have said it doesn't matter if Boone wins or not. It just depends on what Cooper does. Absolutely unequivocally not true and I showed you that in my first scenario.

Tell me what happens if Boone wins and Conner wins. What will the district records be for Boone/Conner/Cooper? 2-way tie? 3-way tie? If it's 2-way (hint: it will be) who goes?

So Boone would lose intentionaly and betting on Conner to lose.

What happens if Boone wins and Conner loses? Think about it .... answer below....

Boone is in. So why should Boone lose?

If Conner wins, Boone is out. If Cooper wins, Boone is in. It does not matter what Boone does.

Boone plays Ryle this week in their last 6A district game. They come in at 1-3.

Ryle cannot lose the #1 spot regardless of what happens in this game.

If Boone would beat Ryle the only way Boone would then make the playoffs is if Cooper should upend Conner.

However, if Boone would lose this game AND Cooper beats Conner they would end up in a 3-way tie and win the 4th spot via the tiebreaker.

So what's in it for Boone to win this game?

It's not like Boone has a change to win anyway.

...So what's in it for Boone to win this game?

The top pick in the draft ?!? :sssh::D

If Conner wins, Boone is out. If Cooper wins, Boone is in. It does not matter what Boone does.

Sometimes one needs a good comeuppance.

Mea culpa is a Latin phrase that translates into English as "my mistake" or "my own fault". To emphasize the message, the adjective "maxima" may be inserted, resulting in "mea maxima culpa," which would translate as "my most [grievous] fault."

Wow. You tried to lead me down the right track and I refused.

Nothing here, folks. Move on.

OK, let me try this:

Boone win, Conner win ...... Boone is out.

Boone loss, Conner win.......Boone is out.

Boone win, Cooper win........Boone is in.

Boone loss, Cooper win......Boone is in.

You see, the only factor that gets Boone is a Cooper win. It does not matter what Boone does. If Cooper wins, Boone is in. If Conner wins, Boone is out. Boone's game has no bearing on whether Boone gets in the playoffs. It is like a non district game as far as playoff impact goes.
