Does anyone know if these were just their top ten players or this is the way they actually ranked them? I can't imagine Hatton being ranked that low. I also know from talking to several coaches that a lot of them do not really participate in this and feel it is not worth the paper it's written on much like preseason rankings.

99% sure it was how they were ranked.

I've put up my top 10 list many times in years past. I looked at this one this year and knew all the players. But this is one of the toughest years to rank players in the area in my opinion. The competition is very spread out. No one is a clear cut favorite like Holmes and CovCath have been over the past 5-10yrs.

 

Another reason its so hard to rank the players is the differences in positions and types of players.

 

This year has some good post players, some few good wings, a few good shooters, and a few good point guards. Most years I can point to a somewhat legit top 10. This year I believe its pretty wide open for the kids to prove themselves as the season begins.

Agree...there's probably 15-20 kids that you could insert somewhere in the top 10 and not be wrong with any.

How is Jake Thelen number 4? His team beat all four of the other teams, and he averaged more than all of them? His team also went further in Region?

Geisler is well deserving of the top spot. Kid has averaged a double double the past two years as a soph and junior.

 

Thelen, Hodges, and Stauffer are a toss up. Hodges and Stauffer have more complete games though IMO and are more versatile than Thelen, hence them being ahead of him.

Key word TEAM beat those other teams and is TEAM went further in the Region. This is an individual player poll. I do think Thelen is the 2nd best player in the REgion next to Geisler. Geisler is a little more mobile and uses both hands very well. Plus Jake Geisler is a couple inches taller than Thelen.

If we are going by the individual stats, then Thelen, who had over 550 points in one season in 31 games, is more than obviously the best. Thelen and Geisler are very similar, yet Thelen's outside shot is... Well better. In AAU Thelen beat out every player in front of him, and during the regular season as well. We will have to wait until they play. Mark my words. He is the top player in the region.

I think Giesler is the top player in the 9th Region but I could make a pretty good argument for Thelen or Stauffer as well. Until Hodges production starts to catch up with his potential I don't think he should be mentioned with the other 3 guys.

Stats don't make you the best player in the region.

 

If we were going on state alone, you'd see guys like Jake Burger in the top 10 and Blake Bryan would've been the best player in the region last year with his 28 ppg.

 

Thelen is a very good player but not the most complete player in the region. He also lacks on the defensive side of the court.

 

Geisler is the best big man and player in the region...period. After that, make an argument for Thelen, Hodges, or Stauffer and you'll have a case.

 

I realize you're a Colonel die hard, but don't let the blue kool-aid affect your judgement.
