I've seen and heard enough about the players I listed to know who I think is a top 15 player.

 

Behanan, Price, Kimbro, and Taylor are all top 150 for their class...nationally. That alone speaks for itself as to why they made my list.

 

I have watched Marcellus Barksdale for the past 3 seasons and kept in contact with him about his recruitment and development. He is easily a top 15 talent in the state.

 

Anthony Hickey has been the best pg in the state for the past 2 seasons....yes I'd take him over last year's Mr. Basketball.

 

Josh Forrest is one of the best athletes in the state and has been proving it since his freshman year at PT.

 

Zollo and Stenzel are rare 4 and 5 year players at the varsity level. Both have great work ethics and have the talent, size, and ability to make big contributions for the college programs they attend.

 

I saw Abell and Gaines last year at the KOB and twice over the summer on the AAU circuit. Abell is one of the most explosive guards in the state and IMO is easily top 150 in the country. Gaines' size and athleticism make him tough to defend since he can play so many different positions.

 

Kam Woods has improved the most, IMO, over the past few years. He is long and lanky but has underrated strength around the rim. He'll be match up nightmare for a lot of other big men.

 

Knipp would be at the bottom of my top 15 list, but the kid can flat out fill it up. He is a hard nosed player and has very good ball handling skills for his size.

 

Fant is an absolute brute down low. Saw him against Tates Creek last year, and when he wasn't in foul trouble, he was dominating down low. He also really showed his stuff at the Sweet 16.

 

Shanklin, despite injuries, has been one of the best pg's in the state over the past few years as well. Very smooth with the rock and tough for his size.

Are all of these players seniors?

 

Would the Hicks kid now at T make the list if open to all players?

 

Yes all are seniors.

 

Hicks is close, but honestly, I'm not sure who I'd replace on my list for him? This year's c/o 2011 is extremely talented and deep.

 

The kids who moved in state make them that much tougher.

What strikes me is that five of the 15 players on Walter's list have played for more than one high school ... Behanan, Hickey, Kimbro, Zollo and Taylor are the ones I know about. Four of them moved here from out-of-state, although Hickey had family ties to Christian County when he moved from nearby Clarksville, Tenn.

 

Don't forget Price. He came from, I believe, Lakewood St. Edward in Cleveland.

GRC will play most of these players this year. I have seen all of them play high school/AAU, but look forward to seeing them again this year. We scrimmage J-Town, play Christian Co, Warren Central, Scott Co, and Mason Co. Could -play Tates Creek in the Fayette Co invitational. Also a possiblity we could scrimmage Eastern in the Fast Lane Classic.

I agree. I loved watching the Shinning Stars Davis. Each had a role and they played it well. You didn't play hard or defense, you saw the pine or the road. Coach Davis did a great job with those young men. What was so great about them, most were very good shooters, so if one was off, another could pick up the slack.

I guess I shouldn't have gotten defensive when you jokingly questioned my "fan-hood"

 

And I really like TK a lot. There isn't much separation between 5-15, so don't think I'm bashing the kid because I said he'd be near the bottom of the top 15. I just like other kids' games a little more and what they bring to the table. Nothing more, nothing less.

I like this list with the exception of Ivey from Scott County and Setty from Mason. While they are no doubt very good players neither are in the top 15 in the state. I might put Setty in my next 10 and Ivey after that. Ivey still has plenty of time to be talked about in the next couple of years though!

Working on my state rankings for the high school basketball season and five of my top 10 guys are likely going to be players that transferred into the Bluegrass State. We know about Bowling Green's Chane Behanan, Jeffersontown's Zach Price and Tony Kimbro and Western's Ryan Taylor. But one that is really good we haven't heard a lot about is Muhlenberg County senior Chris Freeman. The 6-foot-4 Freeman comes from Warren, Texas, where he averaged 13.7 points and 8.5 rebounds a game last season.

There are a lot of good players but none that are at this level. I think the real story line for NKY is the Sophs that get significant time. Off the top of my head, here are some who will start and lead their teams this year.

Mason Monroe - Pendleton

Justin Saunders - Brossart

Niko Carter - Lloyd

Darius Meiman - St Henry

Nate McGovney - Campbell

This is definetly a "down' year for nky basketball as far as individual talent goes.

 

A lot of D2-D3 players in this years' senior class but none that are capable of playing and making an impact at any level D1 school.
