Boone Co. 24 Dixie 6

Way to go Rebels. You came out & showed me I have too little faith in you. The way Dixie has played since your last meeting lead me to believe this would be a much closer game.

IMO, the difference in this game was Joey Bricking. He seemed to be way off tonight & even when he did hit his target, his receivers dropped too many catchable ball. Although I've got to hand it to Boone's D, they played with few different players to due injuries & they all stepped up BIG.

As far as Metzgar goes, I have watched several games this year & have been very impressed with his ability & heart. That play on Kammer was a bad one but it is NOT indicative of the way he has played all year.

We've kinda been Jeckle and Hyde all year. Although I could disect it for you, I don't think it serves a purpose. We had a great year in spite of that last game, and Boone County has a new game that they need to focus on.

Sometimes you do all you can and you still loose. There is no disgrace or dishonnor in it. It doesn't have to be one persons fault over another. It just happens. I didn't see kids not wanting to make plays, but for whatever reason, we didn't. Sometimes it happens. Sometimes it's just not your day. Last Friday was one of those days for us. Does that diminish our season? Not in my opinion. We're district champions and played with an effort of such. Good luck, Boone. I may drive down to watch this one anyway.

Sand, that is a great post and a great philosophy for us fans to keep in mind. Losing stinks, no doubt about it. But losing with dignity, class and nobility is a great lesson we should all try to teach our kids (and ourselves!).

After the game, the teams shook hands, had their little meetings, and then something really cool happened. The players and coaches for both teams stayed and hung out a little just talking. I believe Boone County's team realized what the loss meant to Dixie's kids and were very gracious in victory. The two teams stayed for a good 45 minutes just reminiscing about the last four years and that nights game in particular. I don't know all of what was said, but I heard enough to want to say thanks to Boone County's Head Coach Rick Thompson. He's a class act and I'm sure that one Colonel in particular will always appreciate your kind words after the game. When your a senior, whenever that last game comes, it sucks. State title or not, it sucks. I'm just glad that our boys season ended sharing the field with a classy group of kids and coaches. Thanks BC.

Good post.

I agree that sometimes things just don't go your way. That happened to Boone a couple weeks ago against Conner. A loss in a regional semi finals games is nothing to be ashamed of, I know there are 6 other teams from our district that would love to have been in that game. We've both been fortunate enough to experience this for the last couple years. Dixie accomplished a great deal this year with a very young team. I'm sure they will be right back in it next year because they do the little things during the off season that matter. I may not be a Dixie fan but I do have respect for their program & know they should never be overlooked. Congrats to your seniors & good luck in all future en devours & to all the returning players, keep up the hard work, just not too hard, ;)

Playcalling for both teams, I thought, were questionable all night long. Boone had 4th and 1 a couple times and does a toss or handoff to the deep back for an off tackle run when Bogle could've taken it himself up the middle as the tackles were spread wide and no LB was filling the middle. Dixie, well, we've all questioned their playcalling all year. Spritzky is a great coach, but an average offensive coordinator. Why give the ball to a LB on 4th and goal? Give it to a running back, and let the LB be the lead blocker. Nothing against Huber, but he's not used to the ball being in his hands.

Maybe you should apply to be the OC at Dixie

Whether or not he is a great OC I don't really care. He does an adequate job in my book. He put the kids in a position to beat Trinity and Ryle. What he and the rest of the coaches do on a personal level is way more important to me. They're good men who help create more good men, and that.... is good enough for me. ;)

There are more important things in life than winning, such as turning eager boys into confident young men that will excel in all phases of life.

 I'm too ticked at work to even get in a debate here. :irked:

Plus, you summed up some of my thoughts.

That would be great if it worked.

Watched the first half again last night....... It was painful. Boone played great, but we had every opportunity to win. We just fell short. Joey was off compared to the previous week, and his recievers weren't helping him. Bad play calling, and the wrong personel was responsible for the first non-score, when Dixie got down to the .5 yard line IMO. The other non score was a TD pass in the endzone to a wide open Brady who just dropped it. The next play resulted in an interception. He dropped more balls in that game then he did all year I think. Still, we had open recievers before and after those two series, we just didn't throw it to them. :D Our D was OK, but had trouble capitalizing on 3rd down plays. One that comes to mind is the fullback who gained 13 yards on a 3rd and long. We had him in the backfield and somehow he got away. Like I said, sometimes you try as hard as you can and still come up short. Maybe I'll be able to watch the whole thing on Thursday. :D

I hear you on that.. I was able to watch until Tommy's INT. I wanted to see those blocks by Shawn and Stephen again. That was about all I could stand... Hats off to Boone, they came to play.....
