I think that this class is by far the weakest class that I can ever remember. Especially the east side when you think about Hazard basically not having to play anyone that can even come close to them and be in the finals every year. I don't know what the KHSAA was thinking.

If I knew I could't make the playoff's unless we played our very best each and every week. Or if you don't have things to fight for I don't think you get the very best out of each and every individual. Kids don't get into the home field adv. like older people/coaches. They will take the easy path sometimes. What the heck. First or fourth. We get to go to the playoffs anyway. Playoffs are to watered down. These first round playoff games are crazy. Most arn't even a good practice for the next game.

Example: Just using teams: LCA vs Paris. Mayfield vs Fulton City/Co. ect.

Maybe I missed something? Has Russellville been playing up in 3a? And now they are 1a? What is up with that?

I think one major difference is football, being a more aggressive, demanding sport, can only be played once a week; however, baseball and basketball can be played on consecutive days or at least every other day. This is where the difference lies. Taking 4 teams per district draws the season out too long in my opinion. I think it should be 2, which would mean the state finals would be a week earlier.

Ramcat77 you arn't one of these guys that think every little Johnnie should get a trophy! Thats terrible!:lol: It really bothers me that it has all come down to: We want everyone to have a chance. We don't want to hurt anyone's feelings. God help us when we start giving the same trophy to the state runnerup. Because we wouldn't want any parents saying. We come this far to play. And everyone should get the samething.:cry:

 

RfC I agree with you and Ramcat. This way of thinking imo is an example of some of what's wrong with this country. Not to get into a P&R debate here but in the real world everyone don't win, people get dissapointed and hurt and they have to pick themsekves up, go on and work harder. When I was young every kid made the team, they got dissapointed but learned to work harder. Not every team went to the playoffs, you actually had to win games to get there...:eek: what a concept, you actually had to win some games to advance , who knew:ohbrother::lol:.

I can remember one season in a higher class in our area there was a local team that went 0-10 and advanced bc of just four teams in a district. Those players were embarrassed to play in the playoffs without winning a game. High school kids even knew it wasn't right and they didn't deserve to advance!

I guess I could have just said I don't like four teams in a district with four teams qualifying for the playoffs but I had to get on my soapbox and "ramble" on. I apologize for the sermon.

No apologize needed. I love to hear your sermons. They are uplifting!!! Reflecting back to my high school days. My 9grade year. We were 1-9. All of us on the team and I'm sure all over the area. Everyone was saying. They only won one game and now they have to drive for four hours to lose to the #1team in another district. What a joke. We new we were the joke. I wonder what the point spread is over the state with the first round games. I bet its 35pts+. No need for these games for so many reasons.

The driving time to a playoff game I can understand as a turn off but you even said you wanted to play that game. I just think football should be like the other sports. The good thing about football is at least it is seeded. There are still districts in basketball and other sports doing a draw to set up first round games.

Maybe we should be asking: "Why don't the other sports change to the way football does it". Like you accurately stated basketball has some lopsided scores in the first round of the playoffs. Why not make a change to where everyone has to win some games to advance. Top two teams in football, top two teams in basketball, and so on. Maybe that is what Kentucky sports need, some effort to make the playoffs.

As to the playoffs, I can buy into the argument that other sports should eliminate teams also much more than the argument that football should be the only sport that doesn't let all teams into the playoffs. And there definitely should not be draws for seeding in playoffs like there are in other sports.

I honestly don't know the answer. I have went back and fourth on this several times. What I do think though, if we are going to do it the way it is now, then I think we should just go ahead and let everyone in. The last several years only one team in 2A does not make the playoffs and the other classes don't have many more left out, why not just go ahead and let them in too.

 

But, I go back and fourth on the "Top 2" or everyone. It depends on the day of the week.

You can't because of scheduling conflicts. Basketball and other sports are not classified as football is. How would you determine who goes? Many would say it is based on who you play and your record. What about that 23-0 Class A school that no one bigger than them would schedule because the bigger school has nothing to gain. Also, basketball can have a district, a region and a state tournament finished before the semi's are done in football. There are too many differences and variables. It's comparing apples to oranges.
