Would we all be hoping he makes the post season roster had he hurt his "ankle" on a swing that resulted in a week popup to first instead of a dong? I would. He brings a lot to the table late in a game off the bench. Sure Juan Francisco can hit a ball 500 feet, but he'll also give you a terrible AB more than he should. I think Alonso will be a heck of a player but there's nothing like experience coming off the bench late in a game. He'll give you a good AB just about every time. Pinch hitting is tough, especially against setup guys and closers.

September 22, 201015 yr Either way, if he heard a 'pop' and its his Achilles he's likely out for the year. Even a sprain of it would do it. I don't know about that, but we'll see. One thing is for sure, this is Edmonds last go 'round in the bigs. I sure hope not. But here's the thing. It is my opinion that Edmonds has already done a lot for this team in terms of mentoring Jay Bruce & Drew Stubbs. He can also play a little bit too. It would be great if he could platoon with Gomes in LF. That is looking more & more unlikely, but I would still love to have his bat off of the bench and, if we should reach the World Series, as a potential DH.
