Tradition and Superstition

Featured Replies

I find it interesting to hear of things that some programs have incorporated into their pregame, postgame, or preparation time as part of the programs "Tradition", or some may call it "Superstition". I suppose just about every program has some of these "Traditions", some more strange then others.

Raceland has a song they sing after every win. This song has been sang by the players at Raceland for I would guess 40 years after every win.

What are some of your programs Traditions?

Really? That's a nice touch. But, I bet some of them are like spandex.

It's a virtual kalidescope of colors at DCM Stadium on Thursday nights... and yes, some of the jerseys are a tad bit tight.

Covington Catholic sings the fight song the way its meant to be sung after road wins coming down the highway right before turning into the schools campus.

Plus they tap the Red Dog Alley sign as they head out the door to the field before games. The Red Dog Alley sign is in honor of Red Dog Dougherty, a fantastic and wonderful man that spent part of his brilliant coaching career at Highlands. We can't claim him as just our own, but we are very proud that he spent some of his time at Highlands.

I had a superstition as a player. I had to walk in the locker room at the same time and through the same door every Friday. I put on my girdle pads and then my socks, left foot and then right (2 pairs, same order) and then my pants and cleats. (My pads were put in my pants the night before, left thigh pad, then right and then left knee pad and then right. My girdle pads were put in left hip pad then right and then the butt pad.) I wore my half shirt and went to the bleachers and thought about the game and would vomit. Then I came in and sat in my locker with my eyes closed until time for pre-game. I had my jersey over my pads before putting them on left strap tightened first. The only change to this routine was away games and then it was only a time change. Up through the puking was done at GC and I closed my eyes and focused on the bus ride instead of in my locker.

I just wonder if the left pad right pad thing is for righties, or any of you lefties do the opposite? Good post Sidelinedoc!

I knew you were weird.

My routine was lining up and whooping someones Hind end for 4 quarters.

The GRC players always eat breakfast/ or supper on game day at South Main Grocery. JC and Adury Young have been doing this for the players for as long as I have lived here and that is 19 years.
