Top 3 hard to figure out...Somerset and PT both are looking pretty solid against their level of competition. Central, on the other hand, is 1-3 on the season, but all four games were against 6A competition, and all three losses were to teams that have been in the top 10 6A rankings. The Jackets will likely be 1-5 in two weeks, after playing Manual and St. X...are we going to keep dropping them down in the 3A rankings for losing to two more top 10 6A teams?? (it'd be interesting to find out how many 6A teams will play 5 teams ranked in the top 10 6A rankings this year...) They will also end the year with 6A PRP.

 

Central's only 3A opponents will be their three district opponents, Moore, Etown, and Shawnee, against which they should be an emphatic 3-0.

I don't know that anyone looks at Central as anything but a contender in 3A, but this team is awfully young and lacks some of the experience that characterized the back-to-back state championship teams. They will be in the hunt, and I will be shocked if the Jackets aren't hosting a state semifinal game, but this team is probably more of a work in progress than Scroggins' previous ballclubs.

I would say that Central is the only team in the State of KY that is playing all 6A schools. Not to mention the best 6A schools. Does anyone know rather or not there is another school that plays all 6A? It is going to be tough for that staff to keep the players mental right. Good luck Central. Why schedule these teams?

The youth is why I didn't pick Central as top dog in 3A in the preseason...they are not just young, they are VERY VERY YOUNG. Which, when you think about it, is VERY VERY SCARY. They are loaded with sophomores - and may well win the class this year. What about the next two years?? OMG.

 

I'm not sure they are #1 now, but I've amended my earlier opinion, when I thought they might be a top 10 team, but in the lower half of the top 10...I'm convinced they belong in the top 3, and could be the best before all is said and done.

 

My feeling about youth is this: You can train, and educate, and motivate, but you can't easily accelerate physical, mental, and emotional maturity. Some sophomores may be as talented as seniors, but they are still sophomores, maturity-wise, and that could keep Scroggins from nailing down this year's crown.

 

Still...I don't think anyone wants to see Central as their playoff opposition... the Jackets will be a very tough out.

While I don't mind the ranking, all that matters is being there the first week of December!

Right, anyone who does not think central is the team to beat has not seen them play. They are just too deep and talented to not be considered #1 at any point. However when it comes to coaching and scheme, I think that makes them beatable late in the year by another team....but not too often.
