If you are a Trinity or X fan how much do you read into...

the common opponent of Cincy X?

I think it can tell a lot because the games are so close together and they are all quality, similar teams.

Does the commonality of Cincy X help any of you looking into your crystal ball for the big match up in a few weeks?

This is a grat question. As a Louisville X fan, I travelled up to Cincy last night to view that debacle. Quick notes below:

Very disappointed with Lou. X Offense. That being said, Cincy X has an unreal D-Fast, Big, Strong. Lou. X O LIne was pathetic.

Trinity has a quck strike offense and will move the ball. Not sure of Trinity D, but you can expect Trinity to work with short passes.

Lou. X defense played 3 really good quarters, and Cincy X's O line size and speed just wore them out.

Cincy X's #4 back and #23 are better than Trinity's backs

I expect Trinity to score more than Lou. X. but think that Cincy X will have more success with their O

37-21 Cincy X.

Having seen the St. Xavier Louisville vs. St. Xavier Cincinnati game I do not know what you can read into common opponents. Different teams match up in different ways. Teams, alot of times, match up differently to common opponents. I think this is a case where Trinity has many advantages over the Bombers and will take advantages of those. Trinity's quick pass offense will give the Bombers a lot of difficulties and their defense has enough to hold the Bombers and alow the Trinity offense to prevail.

To answer the question the way Guru (IMO) wanted it answered. I take it with a grain of salt. X and us are so dis-similar nowadays that you can never truly take results from two different games using 3 like teams, and get an assessment of when the latter two match up with each other. That being said, if Trinity comes out and performs well, maybe even winning, it will be hard to keep the confidence level down.

What if Trinity came out and absolutely throttled the Bombers? I would think that would have an impact on opinions and predictions.

St X(Cin) 32 - St X(Lou) 13

Let's say......

Trinity 38 - St X(Cin) - 3

To keep the hypothetical going......

Trinity's ranked 6th in the state, St X is at 2.

Same results as above in the matchups, I would think the pollsters are going to be swayed by the results.

Does any of that have an impact on the game or pre-game prep, no. But I have to believe that it would sway peoples opinions.

Trinity has the better team over Louisville X this year and should be favored unless the Rocks get dismanteld by the Bombers and come limping in Oct. 1 with key injuries.

From my point of view after talking to the players and the officials and knowing Coach Specht's expertise, I think that Cincy St X will attack Trinity with pound the ball type offense to keep the T offense off the field. In Cincy St X's National championship year, Trinity turned it into a shootout from Stein to Dutton and actually led midway through the third quarter. In the 17-7 win down here, Trinity blitzed continually and made Luke Massa hurry all night. St X tried to throw and was unsuccessful. Last year was back to the " i am bigger than you and I will push you out of the way" type game. Trinity was limited due to injuries last year also so I would predict a ball control type game plan this year by the Bombers. How that translates to Lou St X is they do have more familiarity with handling the Rocks offensively than Cincy St X, however they are nowhere near in size and overall speed( except Hall) to Cincy St X. The game was 18-13 Cincy St X leading with 9 minutes remaining and Lou St X had the ball so the final score may be a bit deceiving. I would hope the Trinity team wins big and comes to Papa Johns full of confidence but I think that the 4th quarter gas tank may run out against Cincy St X after a brutal early schedule. Trinity played the brutal schedule last year and it takes a toll on a team.

I only hope that it doesn't take the ultimate toll on our young folks.

Specht's powerful attacking defense will force the young talented Rocks to grow up quickly. It should be very interesting.

"Growing up" is an important part of the process. These kids again, altho talented and skilled, still have a way to go in the game experience department. People are putting way too much on them at this juncture - IMHO.
