Scott has had 1 winning season in the last 25 yrs if I am not mistaken, that is clearly a basketball school and they miss out on many solid Kenton Co. football players to Simon Kenton and Dixie.

I went over SK's and Dixie's roster the other day to see how many kids that played with my son at Woodland who are now on the other two school's roster. I found 1 on Dixie's roster and none on SK's roster. I don't see a major exodus. I think it just comes down to winning and losing. Once Scott becomes more competitive, you'll see more kids on the sidelines.

Thanks VOR, I had no idea. I am very surprised at that. However, that is just one feeder school. You have Twenhofel, Turkeyfoot and I would like to know how many of those kids are on Scott's roster.

I don't know which middle schools Scott pulls from. But from everything I see and hear, I tend to think there aren't a large number of "defections" due to the open enrollment process. I think the ones that have hurt Scott though are the really standout players that bypass Scott. Greg Preston, who was Dixie's starting QB a few years back and played college football, lives in Scott's district. When you lose a player like that it hurts. I wonder how many Scott players end up going to CCH and Holy Cross? Maybe that hurts them since those two schools are basically in the middle/edge of Scott's district. Also, do Scott's coaches share? Or are the coaches of the other sports telling kids to focus all your energy on my sport and then players drop football?

 

Bottom line though is Scott needs to generate some enthusiasm in the program and I think the best way to do it is in the middle school program. I would put all my efforts into making the middle school that feeds Scott the #1 middle school team and then get those guys to buy into going on to Scott together and turning it around.

I wonder how many Scott district kids go to private schools.

When people begin mentioning Bellevue, Newport, Lloyd in a top 15.................i think the dark horse for the top 15 maybe Brossart this year. Now I realize they have played two bad teams but they may be able to sneak up on a few people. Time will tell but they would be my pick for a team off the radar cracking a top 15 poll.

 

Agreed, time will tell. To get some local recognition, however, they will need to change their scheduling. They need to stop playing Caverna, Eminence, Trimble Co and Betsy Lanye. They play in a tough 1A district but there are other local schools they should play rather than that schedule. I see Holy Cross at the end of the season and that will help. Maybe adding Lloyd, Newport, Scott or Holmes would help. I don't think they are ready for Campbell County or NewCath but it appears time to move to the next level a little. A couple of district wins this year would also bolster the resume'.

They better get prepared because if the posted re-alignment is correct they will be playing in 2a against NCC, Newport, Lloyd and Holy Cross.

 

I commend the way they have quickly built the program to respectability. But I agree for them to take to the next level they will have to schedule at a different level as well.

I dont know that people are giving Holmes enough credit. Seems like they could be in the 5,6,7 range, instead of the 9,10,11,12 range.

Way to early to be ranking mid pack teams. Give it a few weeks and everything will sort itself out.

Hard to tell when your only game is Lloyd.
