Rockcastle 20 Mason 19

Featured Replies

Congrats to both teams on a great game. I have to say that I was pulling for Mason, just for the reason they are from our District but Congrats to Rock on the win. I look forward to seeing yall at Putnam Stadium Friday Night.

me too!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sounds like a nail-biter. Congrats to the Rock.

Although I was disappointed in the outcome of this one I can truthfully say that was one of the better games I have seen in a long time.

I have seen pictures of The Rock but it is a nice facility. Hard to believe that it nearly 30 years old. ALL the folks rolled out the red carpet for us (WFTM). I assume it was the AD that met us at the gate and directed us to the press box, the PA guy and of course the broadcast crew there at Rockcastle were more than nice. Just a great bunch of folks from the get go.

Now to the game. Stalsworth is a very nice back and I liked Burkhart alot also. Burkhart made some really good decisions and the O-Line gave him TONS of time to throw. The field goal at the end never had a chance. It was blocked and Browning was not able to get his plant foot down to strike the ball cleanly. But all told it should not have come down to that. Mason had their chances but Rockcastle was able to make the plays when they had to.

This Rocket team has kind of flown under the radar a bit if you ask me. They could give Ashland fits next week. That should be a good game at Putnam.

As far as Mason is concerned, and I mean no disrespect to the Royals in no way, I think they over-achieved this season. This team played with an incredible amount of heart. Grutza, Lofton and Myrick were awesome but this may be one of my favorite Mason County teams because what they lacked in ability they made up for in desire.

7-4 is nothing to be ashamed of especially when 7 of Mason's 10 regular season opponents made the post-season.

Good luck Rockets next week and congratulations on a nice win. You have a class program you can be proud of. Also it was nice to meet 3 Wishes tonight.

I agree with your assessment of Mason County's season. It is absolutely a solid team. 7-3 in the regular season, and then played Rockcastle right to the wire in the playoffs - that's a good run.

I also wanted you to know that I listened to you and Danny Weddle call the game. As usual, you both did an excellent job, and I felt like I was right on top of the action.

With every score, I would call Dirk on his cell phone, and they were announcing the score of your game, right along with Ashland's game.

Thanks for being my eyes,

Frances

Congratulations to Rockcastle on the win, and to the Royals, a great turnaround from last season to this one. I expected Mason Co to play well because of their athleticism and speed. It sounds as if, with a break , they could have one the ballgame. But it is tough to win on the road, especially against a good team like Rockcastle Co. I did expect a close game. Again congratulations to Mason on a good season and I hope to see Rock next week at Putnam Stadium. :thumb:

Rock held the ball for 35 minutes to Mason's 13.

Rock had 21 first downs to Mason's 9.

Stallsworth had another 100 yard game, his 4th in a row in as many starts.

If there was a better game in Kentucky last Friday night, I would have walked to see it. Rock dominated time of posession, but Mason's big-play offense (and Rock's inability to defend Mason's bigger receivers) kept them in the game until the end. If the game had been 15 seconds longer, Mason would have pulled it out, but Rockcastle did a masterful job on their final drive of the game, running the clock to just over 30 seconds left.

I have to echo Phil's comments regarding the Royals' season, to go from 1-9 last year to an eyelash of making the 2nd round of the playoffs, with most of the same players from last year, was a great accomplishment. My props to the Royals' undersized linemen, playing on both sides of the ball against much bigger guys most every time. Rumor has it that Micah Turner is being looked at by Alabama A&M; has anyone else close to Mason County heard this?

To me this game is what high school is all about. I didn't get to watch it but I did listen to it over the internet. Two class act head coaches with two class act programs battling it out until the final play of the game. To me you can't get much better than that.

I really commend all the fans from Mason County on here for being so gracious in defeat. Sometimes people let their emotions get the best of them and post things that really shouldn't be said BUT the fans of Mason County haven't done so. Some posters need to look at the way the Mason County folks have handled themselves. That is another thing that we should see more of in high school athletics.

Congrats to Coach Buchanan and his Mason County Royals for pulling themselves together after the 1-9 season to have a marvelous season this year!!!!!

Congrats to Coach Larkey and his Rockcastle County Rockets for pulling this one out of the bag. Best of luck to the Rockets as they make the arduous trip to historic Putnam Stadium to take on the Ashland Blazer Tomcats!!!!!

I think some of us Statman learned a lesson a couple years ago in basketball in getting a little over excited in the heat of the moment,And i think i can say most of us have grown a little from that. Thanks for the kind words and dood luck next week to you and the Rockets.

#17 for Rockcastle got decleated, it was probably the best hit in the state tonight. Mason CO had some good recievers, I dont see Rock winning anymore this season.

The hit wasn't hard enough because he got back into the game after a couple of plays. He is a tough kid.

Better believe it he did. He is small but a great player. Rock plays with heart. That is what won the game. HARD AS A ROCK!!!

Just revisiting my last game i played in high school. Sure i would have rather won the game and went on to play the grudge match game with Ashland, but this game was special. The Rock players were so humbled and almost apologetic for winning it seemed. They knew that it was one of those games that you live for, and appreciated as a football player. In the end, the guy i had battled to exhaustion on the line for the past 2 hours helped me up and stood with me while the rest of his team celebrated the missed field goal, and win. I realize now that football was not just a game, its was a tool that molded me as an individual over those few short years. My day as a player has come and gone, but my passion and appreciation for the game are still as strong as ever.

Welcome to the site Pac-Man :thumb: It sure sounds like you understand the beauty and the sadness of the wonderful game of football
