Blood Pressure

Featured Replies

Here is something to think about: Mean Arterial Pressure (MAP). MAP is more important then Blood Pressure, but they are directly related. MAP is the pressure inside the arteries, you need a sufficient MAP to profuse vital organs. Here is the equation for determining you MAP: Top blood pressure number (Systolic) + 2 x Bottom blood pressure number (diastolic) divided by 3 = MAP.

The heart needs a minimum MAP of 70.

The Brain needs a minimum MAP of 60.

A Blood Pressure of 100/50 gives you a MAP of 66.

Just food for thought.

Mine was 95/55 last night. I have to check Dad's BP all of the time, so I check mine, too.

Goldie, could it be anxiety attacks? I've been having those of late. I get mad as hell, I mean punch something mad, for absolutely no reason. I have to leave the building or house and walk it off. Heart starts palpitating, I get all shaky, and my stomach starts rolling. Doc told me to back away from the coffee pot and hang out at the water cooler more. Says I'm dehydrated.

The BP I took yesterday of 71/45 gives me a MAP of 59, not good. I will asked my Dr about this.

Don't think it is anxity attacks, I have had alot of stress lately though. I do drink ALOT of coffee, I have tried to cut down on that.

The pattern I am seeing is, it is normal for me in the mornings, but drops sudden in the afternoons.

More food for thought: automatic Blood Pressure machines are very inaccurate.

Normal for me is usually 90/60. But the last few weeks it has been lower. Today it was 71/45.

Holy crap Goldie!!!

Regardless if the cash register is over or under, it probably means something.

Gold, there is a drug called fludrocortisone which is used in severe cases of low BP (known as orthostatic hypotension). Whether your condition is severe enough to warrent its use would be entirely up to your Dr.,but you might mention it to him.
