July 28, 201016 yr I don't have access to research it (posting from my phone), but I believe the extension was put in place at the same time as the financial meltdown with the knowledge that the higher paying white collar jobs would take longer to bring back. Thus the extension to give people the time to find comparable jobs. Of course, no huge job growth has been seen iun any industry at this point. Apparently it's hard to believe, but many jobs have not and will not be re-created. I've seen it in my industry particularly. I have a question for those who oppose UE, what would you do if you lost your job tomorrow? Please do not confuse what I am saying with thinking I am opposed to UE. I think short term unemployment is vital. What I don't think is vital is 99 weeks of UE. I don't care if we had the money to fund it. Bad things happen to good people. If you can't find a job he have to start making tough choices like working at Wal-Mart, selling your car, getting rid of your cell phone, down sizing your house, ect...

August 2, 201016 yr I would love to know how many of the people who have been unemployed for close to the 99 weeks, are earning an income from doing jobs off the books for cash!

August 2, 201016 yr I have, thankfully, never been unemployed. Can someone fill me in on some details? 1) What is the average UE check? How is that determined? 2) With the 99 weeks...is that over a certain time frame? I have a friend who lost her job due to the company downsizing 2 years ago. She was on UE for several months, then found another job, has worked at it for almost a year, and is going to be laid off from it at the end of this week. I would guess that you don't get 99 weeks after every job, so how is the 99 weeks determined?

You take your two highest earning quarters from the previous 12 months, divide the total by 2, and multiply that by .0385 to get your weekly amount. This total cannot exceed your states allowed maximum and cannot be lower then the minimum. As far as the 99 weeks I pretty sure that is per lay off but could be wrong.
August 5, 201016 yr We've enabled our Country. It sickens me. I am living in one of the poorest areas in the USA. I am working 3 jobs right now so my wife can stay home till both my kids get in school. My favorite is working in the Dr's office seeing all the people on the draw sitting around chain smoking while I work in the heat. I hate people that want to work losing their work. I think there should be a cap of so many months till they are supported though.
August 5, 201016 yr What percentage do you THINK does this? At least in Kentucky where the amount of income generated from UE isn't anywhere near as much as say Ohio, I would think a percentage around 40/50.
